I'm a junior at a pretty good school in Maryland, but I wanna go to UVA. Here are my stats:

WHITE MALE :-(
SAT: 730 CR, 800 MATH, 680 WR
GPA: 3.62 unweighted, 4.90 weighted
EC's: Varsity Badminton, Tennis, Lots of school activities, founded math club, volunteered and given award for volunteering at local YMCA, flew to new orleans to help out with katrina aftermath
AP's: world history (4 on ap test), us history, calc ab, java, english 11 (the latter 4 i haven't gotten my grades back yet)
CLASS RANK: ~38/350
HOOKS: none other than my great looks and charming personality ;-)

I KNOW ILL BE ABLE TO WRITE A GREAT ESSAY, DESPITE MY POOR WRITING SECTION SCORE I AM VERY GOOD AT CREATIVE WRITING

that's a huge unweighted/weighted gap! Mine is like .4 and I took 3 APs junior year, the most anybody at my school takes.
Anyway, I think you can get in.

i've heard of towson before..wait, or have i just heard of the town Towson? anyways...your unweighted gpa is kinda low for UVA standards, and i don't know how they change gpa's etc, since it looks as if your ap's are weighted nicely. your test scores are good though, so good luck - i have faith that you will get in ED :)

Well, there's a problem here, since if your UW GPA is 3.62, the highest possible weighted GPA is 4.62--and that presumes that every single class you took was an honors class. Anyway, this means that you have computed your weighted GPA--which is listed as 4.9--incorrectly (although, since you got a 800 on your SAT I math score, it's probably more likely you just hit the wrong key when you were typing it in--you were probably trying to type 4.0--see below).

Therefore I'm going to make a few presumptions here. I'll presume that you took the five AP courses listed, plus probably two non-AP year-long honor courses. If you are going to be a senior this year, this would give you around a 4.008 W GPA.

University of Virginia's entering class last year had an average weighted GPA of 4.0, with average SAT I scores of 659CR and 671M.

Your W GPA of 4.008 and SAT I scores of 730CR/800M obviously is significantly above the average, and even though you are out of state, I give you a good possibility of being accepted--probably about a 65% to 70% chance--maybe even higher if you go ED.

P.S. I used to live in Baltimore myself--and my wife went to Towson State University (I think it's just called Towson University now).
