what are my chances at UVA

Hey everyone, just first off wanna say that if u got accepted to UVA congrats...have fun.

I was just curious to know if you guys think ill get accepted...im from NY...ya the out of state thing is gonna hurt me but ill take a shot.

My GPA is 3.8-3.9 ACT is a 28-30 (thats what ill be submitting) and ill be graduating with 8 AP's. Here are my classes

Spanish I through III and Spanish 200-201 H/ English 9H, 10, 11, journalism, Public Speaking/ Math I H, 2H, 3, 12/ Global History 9h, 10h, AP US History/ Bio H, Chem, AP Physics B, AP Bio, Social Psych/ College Business Law H/ Health, Health H/ CAD, CAD II/ AP Art History, AP micro econ, AP macro Econ, AP stats, and calc H.

I also have 1500+ hours of community service with the town EMS, i have a county award for youth EMS of the year, i started the first red cross youth chapter in my county (president for 2 years), student council for 4 years, JSA, Engineering club, National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Math Honor Society, citizenship award, various science and social studies awards, and other recognitions...

So what do you guys think my chances are of getting in as an out of stater??

idk if it helps any also, but ive been secretary, 1st lieutenant, and captain of my youth corps at EMS...each position was a year. also was president of red cross 2 years, and president of engineering club...(shows responsibility and leadership...well rounded type stuff)

Did you go to a competetive private school or a public school? Are those grades weighted or unweighted?

I got in, but i am in state. My grades were a little lower, but i went to a highly competetive school. I had more "school related" extracarric activities than you did, but nothing like starting the red cross chapter.

I am not in any way qualified to say this, cause i have no idea of where you compare, but i'd say that the worst that happens is you get rejected. I got rejected from 4 out of the 9 schools i applied to.

I say go for it! Worst that happens is that you get rejected.

You are a real go-getter and your coursework looks great but I recommend that you take the ACT in the fall sitting after spending some time prepping and reviewing. OOS admissions to UVa can be quite selective and your good ACT score could be bumped up a notch.

good luck...Be True to the School You finally choose, but in the fall of your senior year...gotta "love" a handful of schools and be happy to matriculate to two or three of them as things can be quite unpredictable and even unfair. Don't hyperfocus on one school too much.

best!

well, i got in from connecticut with a 3.6 gpa, 92% ranking, a 1440, so take from that what you will. people have said this already, but put work into your essays. it's reasonable to say that they carry a lot of weight at uva.
