I'm particulary interested in Yale. How are my stats for ivy league? What kind of schools can these scores get me into? Barnard, U of British Columbia? I'm willing to look into great public schools. I'm not sure what I want yet, trying to decide where to apply. I'm open to any ideas. Want to go some where on the coasts. Also, not interested in a religion affiliated school. Thanks so much!

Would applying EA restrictive improve my chances or make them worse? Yale is my dream school and I'd like to know my chances. If you know of any other great schools public or private that I could get into with these scores let me know. Thanks!

id say yale is a bit of a reach, but EA would improve your chances, and if you write essays that tell them exactly why YOU are a PERFECT fit for the school, than your chances go up a lot
good luck, u sound like a great kid
u mind chancing me on my thread? noones really helpin me out here

any other opinions? I really want to go here. If you know how i could improve my credientials just tell me. Is Yale a high medium or low reach for me? Thanks for your input so far!

Yale is going to be tough, to be honest. I hate to be a naysayer but try to get the ACT up to a 34 or something (I am unfamliar with the test) Also, you need SAT II's. I'm not quite sure if EA helps your chances, but I am curious.
Barnard seems like a match to low reach. Don't know anything about Canadian schools. I feel the same as you with the no response.
How come some people get a ton and some get like none?

Thanks. At yale though if you take the ACT with writing you don't have to take subject tests. Which is good for me since my school refuses to offer the SAT or any subject tests and they don't give out information on where or when you can take it.

haha that is really weird, but cool

A 32 on the ACT puts you about in the middle of the Yale applicant crowd. It looks like you've got some pretty decent ECs and valedictorian is always a great bonus, but Yale is, of course, extremely selective. You probably have about as good a chance as most people, a lot of it seems to be luck of the draw.

Yale makes it clear that applying EA does not help. The numbers only seem like they are higher because it's the time when they accept most recruited athletes and legacies.

What state are you from? Has your HS sent many kids to top colleges?

for yale: good rank. bad act. mediocre ECs.

reject

I'm from Nevada and I don't think my school has ever sent any kids to top colleges. Probably the most prestigious colleges anyone has gotten into was UCLA. But then again most of the kids even the brilliant ones only apply close to home. Does that hurt my chances?

Navad helps but raise the ACT or try the SAT.

So like a 20% chance acceptance and 80% rejection chance?? Higher, lower? Will a great essay improve my chances or will i still be a 20/80? I can't really afford to take the ACT again. So chances are its not changing. But Yale ACT average is like 31-34 so i'm kind of right in there. Does being low income hurt my chances. EC's would be better but during the school year I have to work like 15 hours a week and that combined with my ec's and homework leaves me hardly any time.

Trisha, maybe you can get a waiver to take one of the tests? If you look at Yale's numbers you'll understand that very few with a hook get in with numbers that are not well over the 50%. If you love Yale, there are many other schools you'll love too. Is money a factor? Have you looked at Trinity, Colby, Bowdoin? I'm sure they'd all love a val from Nebraska!

I haven't looked into those. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm pretty sure trinity is a religious school and i'm not really interested in those but I'll definitely check out the others. And i'm from Nevada not Nebraska.

your stats look good..
try and bring up that act..although a 32 is a great score, for yale it seems to be the standout "weakness" on your app

ok thanks. I'll try. What about Tufts any opinions? I'm interested in anything with a good reputation in the Northeast or California. I already have my safeties picked out so i'm not worried about those. I just need to find matches and several tempting reaches

Nevada is good too:) Tufts is a good choice. Is money an issue?

money is an issue but we make low enough that our EFC is zero So i should be getting some grants by filling out the fafsa and honestly finding a college that i love and that fits me well is more important than cost. I'll work out cost problems after I see where I get accepted and how much financial aid I get.

Trisha, you need to worry about cost. Most schools do not meet full need which is to say that even with a zero EFC, most kids do not get enough aid to attend. I don't like to recommend colleges without taking this into consideration. A kid with a zero EFC is hardly in the same boat as a kid who can afford to pay at all but a few schools. You will want to focus on schools that do meet need given your EFC. You need to make sure you have financial safeties you like.

I already have full tuition for two safeties one of which I'd be completely happy going to. And if going to a school really means a lot to me I'll come up with the money some how. I'm pretty self sufficient. Even if my parents were millionaires they would still make me pay for my own college so EFC large or not I'm completely on my own the day I leave home. So cost is a large concern but I plan to use it as a final determining factor after I've been accepted and seen the financial aid packages.
