I am plan to major in Meteorology or Political Science. Plan to apply to Penn State, U of Miami, Georgia Tech, Cornell, maybe others, not sure yet. What are my chances at these schools?

In my opinion u've got a really really good chance at all of those schools........well...some might say that ur SAT score is too low for an ivy like Cornell....but I think ur ECs are reallllly good, plus u still have another year to get a better score so u'll be fine.........also I see u like to swim (or at least r really good at it to be captain and all) so u should defintely try to get recruited for that (only if u want to play for the college team of course.......)

Come on people any other opinions?

if you add 150 points to the SAT you might want to consider adding maybe a upenn or dartmouth.

What you have is pretty impressive but you will certainly need to raise your SAT. Aim for 700s on your SAT IIs, a 2100+ on the new SAT and take the ACT. 3rd out of 800 and only a 1220 on SAT probably means your school isn't that competitive which might be an issue but probably only if it is a close call so get those SATs and you should be fine.

A few years ago I read an article (in the WSJ, I think) about a small school in Vermont with a well-respected meterology program: Lyndon State. If I recall correctly, the article reported that nearly 100% of Lyndon State's meterology graduates either went to grad school or found employment in their field, and that they were in high demand.

The school offers several meterology tracks, depending on whether you want to go to grad school, work for the National Weather Service, go into broadcasting, etc.

MiamiC-A: You're heading in the right direction. Your GPA, rank, AP's and H courses are solid, and good EC's. The most important thing is to concentrate on bringing up your SAT scores. If you maintain your stats and bring your score up atleast 150 points, your URM status will boost your chances at some very good schools.

Good Luck!
(otro medio-cubiche)

Get your SAT score up and your a lock.

Thanks for your comment, and yes my school is not very competitive. Rarely have anyone with SAT above 1400.

Oh and what do you suggest I do to improve my SAT?

i havent tried this but a really good suggestion i heard it buying 10 real SATs, and taking a practice test every week, 10 weeks before the exam, under exam conditions..time constraints, etc. Good luck.

any other suggestions
