SAT II: US History 530

APs:
5 or 6 total depending on my senior schedule. I bombed exams for the only two I took during my junior year (Lit and US) but I will get 4s this year.

Volunteer work:
-Elementary School volunteer work (max 50hr)- Basically act as a TA by organizing and preparing materials for next day’s lesson. Also, when necessary work with students with coloring, cutting, or whatever else they need help with.
-Piano accompaniment for Sunday services (max 10hr)- Play hymnals during Sunday services. It would count as volunteer work right? Regardless of religious affiliation, I voluntarily did it.
-Volunteer at a local art museum- just got accepted so I’ll complete a minimum of 30 hours by the time I apply to colleges.
-Also, I’ve done volunteer work at other places but, they were just one time things. Do admission officers like to see this kind of volunteer work??

These are all I can think of, but please give honest answers because I really want to know if I will get accepted to BU. If there are last minute things I can do to increase my chances of getting accepted please do tell me. I am willing to do all I can. Thanks in advance!

SAT: 1st-1510; 2nd-1430

Are those out of 1600? Or out of 2400?
If out 2400 you really think you’ll raise 1510 to 2200?

If those are out of 2400, ATM you have a low chance.
Out of 1600, you have a good chance.

It is out of 2400.
I got 1510 without any studying or other sort of preparation… If that explains anything.
Also, my scores have improved by 300 over the month, which makes it 1810.
So, by October, which is when I’ll be taking my third SAT, I’m sure it’ll be in the range of 1900-2000.

QUESTION: I know the SATIIs are curved but are the SATIs curved??

Yes. Each individual section of the SATI is curved

BU is not a safety for you…its average gpa is a 3.6…yours is a 3.7…the average SAT scores is around 1800…yours is 1510…your not going from a 1510 to a 2000 or more score…its not happening…but BU is a solid match and I do think you can get in easily…best of luck!!!

I have to disagree with boston_man, I do think it could possibly be a match, because of your extra curriculars, but its no “solid match”. I think you need to really push yourself to get that 1800 score.

I actually had the same thing happen to me. I started with a 1600 score in October of my junior year and started to work my a$$ off the rest of the year to get my scores up. I really really pushed my self hard, for two to three months straight I just cracked the books and read. I really wanted a 2100, but unfortunately I ended up with an 1880.

Point is, you are going to have to work a lot more than me and make so many more sacrifices to reach a 2000, I don’t think its that practical, looking at the ECs that make you shine. I would say work really hard this summer until the October SAT I, than see how you do. If its not too good again, take the November SAT IIs and apply ED, which should pretty much put you in.
