Hi everyone,
I live in California, my weighted GPA is 3.7 and my unweighted is 3.4/3.5. I’m currently wrapping up my Junior year. My SAT is (the new sat) 1370/1600 and my ACT is 30. I did my 9th and 10th in a very competitive high school in New York, before I had to move to a mediocre school in Cali. My ECs are limited because I moved. I did 2 years of Model UN and 2 years of Future Business Leaders of America and 1 year of Red Cross club and 1 year of wounded warriors. There is an enormous upward trend on my transcript because I started studying very hard in 11th grade. I have straight As in 11th with 4 AP classes.
I would appreciate if someone could tell me my chances of getting into some or all of these colleges:
-University of Michigan
-Stanford
-UC Berkeley
-USC
-UCLA
-UCSB
-Boston University
-Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
-Georgetown
-UChicago
-Northwestern
I know these are tough schools but I’m an optimist
You should probably change your username to disarm any prejudice lol. But to evaluate:
-University of Michigan: reach
-Stanford: high reach
-UC Berkeley: high reach
-USC: high reach
-UCLA: high reach
-UCSB: reach
-Boston University: reach
-Cal Poly San Luis Obispo: reach
-Georgetown: high reach
-UChicago: high reach
-Northwestern: high reach
It’s still hard to evaluate the extent to which these colleges will see your circumstances as extenuating. Even if colleges feel slightly lenient towards this, your GPA, ACT, and ECs are somewhat below what they are looking for. I’d suggest continuing on your amazing academics of junior year into your senior year, and pursue leadership positions in clubs or find other unique extracurricular that you can become strong in. You should also retake the SAT or ACT-- these scores are good, but are a whole level below what these caliber schools expect. And very importantly, writing excellent admissions essays can be invaluable to your overall application.
Good luck! I’m currently a college-bound senior who is glad to be finishing up high school. College admissions is a painful process, but pull through and success is yours
Follow up question @Pokerworld :
If I continue my As into senior year, would that factor into the GPA that colleges consider?I know that my GPA is low and it would be great if that was the case.
If your school runs on trimesters, then the 1st tri will be under consideration. For a semester system, it’s the first semester. Source: I go to a trimester school and used to go to a semester school.
^ but not for UCs in general (unless they ask for a supplemental).
You do have a bunch of reach and high reach schools. Your GPA is the weakest link while your test scores are also below admission average for most of them. You do need to look for some more match schools and a safety.
What about University of Texas-Austin or Indiana University Bloomington? Are those better matches?
