What are my chances? (Chance me and I'll chance you!)

I'm applying to Yale early action, UPenn, Brown, Duke, Cornell, Northwestern (their combined B.A/M.D. program), and Georgetown. (I didn't list my safeties).

SAT I: 2320 -- 800 M, 760 W, 760 R
SAT II: 790 Math II, 770 Chinese, 730 Chemistry, 690 Biology

Transcript: my school doesn't calculate GPA. However, I've gotten all A's, except for one B+ in freshman year and one B+ in sophomore year. Please consider the fact that I go to an all girls private prep school, so A's are extremely hard to earn.

Junior year courses: AP BC Calc, AP chemistry, AP English language, biology, french IV, US history.
Senior year courses: AP Biology, AP physics, AP English literature, AP French, economics and globalization, multivariable calculus
Note: all courses offered at my school are considered honors courses.

For the three AP tests that I took at the end of junior year, I received all 5's.

Extra-curriculars:
- Pittsburgh Mayor's Youth Council, 3 years, Chair of subcommittee and a member of the Youth Commission
- Model UN, 4 years, currently president
- School newspaper, 4 years, features and business editor
- OCA (Organization of Chinese Americans), president of Pittsburgh chapter
- UPMC apprenticeship
- 600+ hours of community service
- French club, STAND, SDLC

Awards:
- National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalist
- The Congressional Award, Gold medal
- Westinghouse Science Honors institute
- AP Scholar
- Rachel Carson Book Award
- English and French National Honor Society

Other:
- attended Pennsylvania Governor's school for international studies (prestigious & selective program)
- did an internship in Beijing, China at the Marriott hotel as translator
- took summer courses at Univ. of Pitt

So, that's the general gist. I excluded other activities/awards/etc. that are less significant.

Please tell me what my chances, weaknesses, and strengths are! I will do the same for you :).

Thanks so much!

i'd be surprised if you didn't get into at least one of those schools you listed.

northwestern BA/MD will be the toughest though.

really work on your essays. they'll be the deciding factor. i see no weaknesses, just strengths. good luck!

I think Georgetown, Cornell, and Duke are pretty good bets. Brown, Northwestern, and Yale are pretty good chances..
You're pretty strong everywhere, except you might want to get Biology and Chem SAT II up a bit if you're going into anything with science.
Write really strong essays and show a true passion for something; right now it seems you could have two or three.

Good luck!

thanks for your input! anyone else? and does anyone know exactly how competitive northwestern's BA/MD program is?

oh and, i know that bump means bring up my post, but how does it work exactly? if i just type "bump" will it bring my post up? i'm a newbie on college confidential!

I would really think that you'd get into all your schools. You have an amazing app in my opinion..just work on your Essays as someone said above. You're set.

Also, chance me: <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/577987-chances-business-schools.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/577987-chances-business-schools.html</a></p>

Wow, yeah your deffinately qualified for all of those schools. I'll bet you get into Yale. The other posters are right about NW's BA/MD program, but with a slightly higher Biology score and killer recs and essays, i think you have a pretty good shot, at least as good as anyone else. Brown can be a bit erratic with there admissions decisions, so while your definately qualified, i wouldn't put too much money on it. Well good luck.

my chances thread is "Chances? Chance me and ill return the favor. Columbia, Brown,..... "or something like that. it should be on the first page. Please give it a look.

thanks! this is extremely encouraging -- i thought that i had an extremely slim chance at yale, given the two B+'s on my transcript.

any other opinions?

oh and, if you want me to return the favor, include the link of your chance thread!

since most of the selective colleges only require 2 or 3 SAT II's, do you think they'll be willing to overlook my lower scores (bio and chem)?

bump

I think that you have good chances at getting into georgetown, duke and northwestern. you might not get into UPenn because it's extremely competitive. I think that you'll definitely get into one of these schools. I think that you have a good chance at Yale.

Please chance me: <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/northeastern-university/577676-chances-northeastern.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/northeastern-university/577676-chances-northeastern.html</a></p>

Hey, we're doing almost the same thing, except I'm in a public school. Nice to meet you!

Yale early action - Reach for everyone
UPenn - Low Reach
Brown - Easy in
Duke - Not sure
Cornell - Easy in
Northwestern (their combined B.A/M.D. program) - Hard, but should be low reach I think
Georgetown - Not sure.

Lots of service hours, Solid Sat scores, GPA is not bad for a difficult school. Extracurriculars are a little scattered but Awards are good. Junior year schedule seems kind of strange to me, but I think it's pretty good. You got as good a shot as anyone else.

Chance me back please!

any other thoughts? bump.

Yale - crapshoot, but you are good. slight reach - reach
Upenn - slight reach - reach
Brown - slight reach
Duke - match
Cornell - match
Northwestern - match
Georgetown - match
