Unfortunately you have a lot of teenagers telling you colleges will overlook a bad year if you have an excuse. This was not my experience working in admissions. We had a lot of kids with a lot of what sounded like good excuses, but we could not accept them over those who had consistently strong school performance.

While a few reaches never hurt, your main focus should be on schools where your stats are in range that take a substantial percent of transfer applicants.

I think you have a decent shot at a lot of them. I think Umich would be a good one. Notre Dame is possibly more of a reach unfortunately. But, in an essay or interview, work in the reason you had a bad year, how it affected you, and why your transfering and you might do well.

Wow! The research you’ve done is AMAZING! I’ve always wanted to be great at maths and sciences, and I find nanotech very exciting.

But back to the actual subject. I don’t know too much about the 3 universities at the bottom of your list. However, I truly believe you definitely have a great shot at all the other universities you listed. You’ve shown your passion and dedication to a particular subject, and not to mention you’re GPA, really, is quite good.

Cornell- low reach (only because it’s an ivy)
