What are my chances (Definately not for an IVY)

2.5 GPA (junior year)
International student
Black Male
Soccer - Country's National Soccer Team
SAT - Taking it on June 3
20 Hours of Community service

I'm an international student so I dont have all of those statistics, only what you see here, Also I can get a good REC for my guidance counsellor if necessary

I dont want to go to an IVY I just wanna get in college lol and hopefully not a community college either. Am I screwed, think the soccer will help me? Should I just give up now? If not where are some average level colleges I should apply to where I stand a chance of being accepted (By the way I need room and board).

Im focused and determined to go to and through college succesfully but my hardest part is getting there because of my nonchalant attitude in highschool. Hopefully theres still hope for me, dont wanna end up fixing your cars or something LOL.

omg, you played on the national team? what country? in that case, haha just let the division I schools come to YOU. yes, soccer will DEFINITLY help you, it's a major hook. what field are you interested in?

Well I'm 15, turning 16 on June 3rd so I played in the respective age group which was Under 15 last year. The country is The Bahamas, so we get little recognition unless we're the coaches pet. And once I can get into a college I'll pick my major from what they offer.

bumpity bmpz

you'll be able to get into some state colleges probably, but if you're only 15 going on 16 isn't college 2 years away?

When you say state colleges, what do you mean by that? and Im graduating at the age of 16 and planning on going straight into college ;)

state colleges as in university of virginia, university of texas or other public schools like that

assuming you're not a division one recruit for soccer, I'd say you're a reach at the top state colleges (Umich, UVA, etc) but should be able to get into the second tier public state colleges (think south florida) it's really hard to say though without SAT scores, you can't get into any traditional school without an SAT/ACT I don't think.

Thanks gatordan & Dittogal

Please continue to post your opinions and views.

Soccer could be a great help to you...Try to market yourself to college coaches. If you havent done this yet, an easy way to start is send a formal email letting them know of your interest. Give them a resume of your skills and a list of tournaments you will play in so they have the opportunity to see you. Also, you can attend camps through universities (Almost all big ones have one in the summer) to get to know college coaches. If you truly are a great player they will recognize this and eagerly recruit you

Thanks for the advice spartanspirit428 (y)!

reko i'm from the bahamas , what school do u go to and what were your bgsc's subject / scocers . Bahamain students grade always seem low because of the grade deflation

u should get more community service hours and bring up ur ec's and grade... soccer will help but schools like to see that u can keep a good grade while doing ur ec's...

Im doing 20 more community service ours, and going to join some clubs next year. Bahamas363 I attend SAC, are you in college? and Yeah it kinda seems low but Im working much harder than that.

CC or state school.

I had a friend who was from the Bahamas and studying at the University of Toronto. I would look into it. Though more expensive for internationals, it is still reasonably priced, and Toronto remains a very cheap city in which to live.
