I know that Villanova is a "difficult" school to get into, and I've hard that the competition is even stiffer for EA applicants. I'm wondering what you guys think my chances are EA. Also, is it true that you cannot be rejected EA, only deferred or accepted?

ACT-
31 (35 E, 31 M, 29 R, 28 S) and, (different sitting)
31 (35 E, 30 M, 28R, 30 S) (not sure which is better)

Retaking this October--I'm expecting a 32

Subject Tests-
waiting on scores, but hoping for 700ish lit and 700ish history

ECs-
A few leadership postions around school, (lots of leadership dealing with community service), lots of community service, sports (captain of my team 10-12), work 10 hours a week school-year, 40 hours a week summer, NHS, etc. (nothing too extraordinary, but I'm definitely active at school and in my community)

So, what do you think?

Also, how much of a factor do you think the supplemental essay plays?

I contacted Villanova today and someone in the office told me that it is not more difficult to be accepted EA, and that if anything, it is a plus. It’s weird though because on the website it shows that the accepted test score/GPA averages are higher EA… it also says that EA is for the super motivated/impressive applicants or something along those lines.

With this new info, can anyone “chance” me for Villanova EA?

It would help to know your ethnicity, location, what school within Villanova you’re applying to and GPA scores. Applying EA is definitely a plus because you can’t be denied and it shows you’re very interested in Villanova. The supplemental essay plays a fairly significant role in my opinion and is one of the few areas where you could truly differentiate yourself from the competition. Take advantage of this and make your essay PERFECT!

From what you provided, your scores and EC activities are in line with the average Villanova student. I’d say you have a fair shot with a perfect essay (assuming a high GPA as well). Good luck.

Thanks for the comments. I have a 3.83/4 UW GPA and I’m not sure of my weighted GPA. However, I have taken all of the toughest classes my school offers and will graduate with 8 APs under my belt. I believe I am ranked 6th out of 215 students.

I’m applying to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

As for my essay… I’ve been working on it and I think it’s alright but I wouldn’t by any stretch of the imagination call it “perfect”, ha. Would you be willing to look it over for me? I’m worried it comes off as a little cliche, but I truly am being genuine in the essay.

Those stats are solid. It’s great your challenging yourself with 8 APs as well. I know Villanova really stresses Seniors to challenge themselves to their fullest and take as many APs as they can handle.

Assuming a good essay, I’d say your a pretty high match. Send it over and I can check it out for you.
