What are my chances? Early Action

Hello!

I have applied to UMass Amherst via Early Action. I have confirmed that they have received my entire application and all supplementals.

I am a Massachusetts resident.

My high school's GPA is weighted on a scale of 5.3 - my GPA on this scale is 3.653. I am in the 30th percentile of my class.

I took the SAT twice. My best scores are:

CR - 530
M - 570
W - 560

I've taken only College Prep level classes with several AP classes tossed in for good measure.

My ECs are extensive: out of school dance, out of school dance competition, school dance team, math club, drama, women's chorus. I'm also the person who reads the morning announcements every day.

I applied as an Asian and the choice of major I specified in the Early Action application was "Undecided."

My essay was about how I can speak my particular Asian language but struggle to read and write it, having been born and raised in the United States.

What do you think, fair readers?

I think your chances are fair. Your test scores are a little below average, your GPA is quite a bit below average (your GPA converts to 2.75 on a 4.0 scale, average is 3.6), as is your class rank. Taking APs shows you are not coasting through HS, which should help.

Take a look at the scattergraph at the bottom of this page: [University of Massachusetts Amherst in Amherst, Massachusetts](<a href=“College Search Database: Free College Search Engine | Appily”>College Search Database: Free College Search Engine | Appily) . You fall in the dreaded lower left quadrant.

Your ECs look great, hopefully that gives you a big boost.

Thank you! I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

I think you’ll be fine. If not accepted, probably deferred then accepted.

I was accepted through Early Action. I just received the package in the mail today.

Thanks for your feedback, everyone!

Congratulations! That is great news!
