Keep in mind that the University of Chicago only offers the option of applying EA, not ED. That being said, I'm a high school junior myself, so I don't find myself qualified to comment on chances. I will applying to Chicago this Fall most likely under EA as well. Good luck.

Early action is non-binding, while early decision is. (Have you ever been to the website...?). Otherwise, your stats are definitely up to par. But essays and interest are atop Chicago's list of priorities, so I can't comment there.

Awesome GPA and test scores! Concerning your EXs, I'm not sure if you have leadership positions in them because you didn't list any, but usually I know colleges want to see that you are devoted to your EX's, which means if you submit a long list of clubs without listing leadership positions it will do more harm than good. And yes, though Chicago DOES place more of an emphasis on essays than oher schools, remember, your transcript is ALWAYS most important. No matter what school you apply to.

So yes, definitely apply EA. You have an excellent chance (especially since you are special in that, compared to other applicants, you actually are athletic). And in another way, EA is better than ED, since it is non-binding, so you can still back out if you want.

yes, I actually have a 3.97 uw GPA and will be taking 12 Ap classes at the end of high school. Also I have leadership roles in all of my activities. I was also wondering if UChicago has a crew team, like as a club sport?

When I had my interview, there was a junior there in the admissions office and someone in the office actually tracked down the crew captain for the kid so they could talk about crew at chicago.
