What are my chances for admission at UPenn Early Decision

I wanted others' opinions on my chances of admission to the University of Pennsylvania since my counselor keeps telling me that I have a good chance and that I shouldn't worry. After seeing some scores being rejected, I am very worried now.

Weighted GPA: 4.06
Unweighted 3.9
ACT: 31 but I am retaking in June and I have taken 5 practice tests from various sources and have scored consistently over 32
SAT: Math-800; Reading-690; Writing-720 I am also retaking in June and have raised my reading to about 730 and my writing to about 750 in 3 practice tests.
Rank: N/A since my school doesn't rank but I'm definitely in the top 10% probably top 5%
SAT II: Math 2-730; Biology-780
AP Scores: Biology-5; AP Lang & Composition-5
Summer School at the Local Community College: Spanish 2 which is equivalent to High School Spanish 3 and 4
Senior Year Classes: AP Literature, AP Statistics, AP Gov, AP Chem, Calculus, Physics

Extra Curricular:
-10 Years of Piano which includes state competitions
-7 Years of Violin which includes state conventions
-3 Years of Private Lesson for Guitar and Drums
-One of the founders of a school club (currently secretary) that has linked multiple schools (mostly ones in the school district or in the area) into helping various children from different countries. We have shipped over 2 boxes of toys to India and over 6 boxes of books to Invisible Children (Africa). We are currently finding ways to help children of Japan.
-Development of an Android App that currently has 16,635 downloads and grows about 750 a day
-VP of Engineering for a small company that handles tracking down bad automobile loans for companies one including JP Morgan Chase. I handle the website database.

Recommendations: I have three teachers that are willing to write me recommendations; they seem to enjoy me in their classes so hopefully the recommendations will be favorable. My boss is willing to write a recommendation also.

Awards and Recognition:
-Ayn Rand Essay Competition Semi Finalist
-4 years of State Convention recognition for Violin
-Android App had the most downloads of the day on release on AppBrain

I can't think of anything else to list but this sums up what I have done in High School so far before senior year. I know my GPA is low but there isn't much I can do now. My tests scores are also low but if the multiple practice tests I have done have indicated anything then my scores should be higher after June. I will also be taking SAT II for Chemistry and Literature in October. I don't know if colleges will look down at me for taking the Math SAT II again so I'll decide if I will take it again later. I plan to apply for Biology or Bioengineering to later pursue medical research or specialize in Pulmonology.

All input will be greatly appreciated.

Don’t sweat it. Even your counselor says you have a good chance.

If you didn’t have your extra curricular activities I would say you have about a 50-50 chance. But with your amazing accomplishments I would agree with your counsler an say that you have about a 90%-95% chance of getting in.

Chance Me http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1144211-chance-cornell.html

I’m going to be honest. You do not have a “90%-95% chance.” Nor do you have a “50-50 chance.” You certainly have quite a fair chance, but because UPenn is any Ivy, there are absolutely no guarantees.

It also appears as if you’ll be applying to either SEAS or Wharton, which are extremely competitive, even (or maybe especially? Idk) during ED round.

I suggest getting those test scores up a bit, and having more leadership roles, with maybe 1 or 2 more ECs. Also, you may want to get some community service hours and/or work experience this summer. Without any of the above, your chances for acceptance are relatively slim. I know a kid with a 2370 SAT, 4.0 GPA, 4.92 weighted GPA, roughly 8 or 9 APs (all with 5s on the test), many many many regional/state/national science awards, part of 3 varsity sports teams (captains for all 3), some of the best recommendations ever given in the school (says the guidance counselor), and some of the best essays that the guidance counselor or any other teacher who read them had ever seen. Yet he didn’t get into Penn.

So while you certainly have a chance, don’t become overly confident. Apply to some targets and safeties just in case. Good luck!

^I pretty much agree.

Thanks for the feedback; really appreciate it. I will definitely be applying to schools I have a higher chance at like the UCs since I live in California. I know UC Berkeley and UCLA are still hard; they are definitely not my safety schools.

Edit: Also what would my chances at Stanford be if I decided to apply Early Action instead of early decision to UPenn. I just want to know if it isn’t impossible because Stanford has been my dream school for along time but UPenn’s early decision has a higher acceptance rate and I don’t want to throw that away for a lost cause.

You will need to pull up your ACT. My friend was rejected ED to UPenn, and he had a 3.6 at a prestigious prep school + a 35 on his ACT. Not to be a downer, it is do-able, just study hard and if you can bring up that test score I think your chance will be as good as anyone’s!
