Freshmen year I got a 2.20 GPA that I made up through sophomore and junior year online at BYU independent study. It is now a 4.0 GPA but it still shows that I used to have a 2.20 before I made it up.

Joined 3 clubs, not leaders in them. Joined them in the beginning of junior year.
200 hours of community service at an animal shelter.
In the summer of junior year I went to Peru and volunteered in an orphanage for two weeks.
Valedictorian at my school.

What are my chances? My ECs are super weak as well as my SATs so I am worried that I won't get in because of this.

i think you should retake your SAT and see how you do then. that’ll probably bring down uur application just a tad bit but dont let these numbers discourage you! study hard and get a better SAT and i think ull be in a good range . good luck!

Curious how you became valedictorian after getting a 2.20 GPA your freshman year. I suppose you “made up for it”, but they don’t factor in your failed classes?

At my school, you can retake a class if you fail, but they average the GPA between the failed and retake class.

did you all of a sudden wake up or something? don’t worry UCs do not look at your freshmen GPA. However, ivies do. Your SAT score is bringing you down. You need at least over 2000 or you could should for lower ranking UCs such as Riverside or Merced. Good job on the improvement. It’s a massive change. Colleges like that.

I retook my freshmen classes and that replaced my GPA from a 2.20 to a 4.0. I didn’t fail any of the classes my freshmen year if that matters.
and I know that I haven’t started senior year, but I’m assuming I will get straight A’s again because I did junior year and I am very determined. I know I might not, but I’m wondering what my chances are IF I did.

Thanks everyone. I’m planning on retaking my SATs. Wish me luck.

I’d also like to add in that I’m a California resident. I heard that should help?
