Have done Indoor and Outdoor Track for the past two years and plan on doing it for Jr./Sr. Year. Running is a passion of mine and something I excel in. I've gotten my letter and FWIW am one of the top-10 1000 meter runners in the state (MA), among sophomores and the 4x800m relay I'm apart of is among the best in the state (I don't know if colleges care - I'm not gonna be recruited, so probably not.)
Did Soccer (JV) for Freshman and Sophomore Year...going to move to Cross Country for the next two years to focus on my running more so - should be second or third on the team)
Member of NHS (hope to be an officer as a Senior)
Vice-President of my Class
Secretary of the Latin Club
Runner-up in school's Academic Factathalon (as a sophomore)

Scores:
PSAT on Oct. of Sophomore Year: 200
I've taken a few practice tests and sections and am currently hovering around 2200. Hopefully in the next 12 months I can follow in my siblings' footsteps and bring it up to a perfect score.

Essays and Recs:
I'm a pretty good writer and I think I have a good essay topic (my mother's current battle with Stage IV cancer that has gone on since sixth grade and the complications that has brought up in my life). My recs should be good, I already have certain teachers in mind who especially like me.

What are my chances for...

Harvard:
Brown:
Dartmouth:
Tufts:
Boston College:

Don't really know what I want to study, honestly, but I'm certainly more of an English/writer-type.

I know it's early and Junior year is "the year" but I'm wondering what my chances are at basically the halfway point in my HS career. Thanks! I'll chance you back if needed.

bump…I’ll certainly chance you back if you give me some input.

you are looking good so far, but applications are a long ways off. a lot can change in 2 years, but just make sure you have good test scores (2200 minimum) and solid grades. you don’t want to give colleges any reason to doubt your abilities. also it wouldn’t hurt to show a little more commitment extracurricularly. you have some good ecs, but you want to make sure that you demonstrate your leadership abilities and passion for your commitments. since you like writing, see if there is some activity you can do that will tie in there. if not, start one. it will show extra initiative.
finally, it is important to remember that, even for the best of applicants, the acceptance rate is about 10% at brown, dartmouth, and harvard. if you do all these things you will have as good a shot as anyone, but there are no guarantees. i would find some less selective schools where you would be happy and also apply to those. you are pretty much a match for boston college and tufts. good luck!

Thanks, man! Yeah, I agree, these colleges are sorta crap-shoots in terms of admissions. After positioning yourself as well as possible, some of it is just blind luck.

I do hope to enter some writing contests or something of that nature to boost that EC a bit. Definitely worth a try.

All of your stats are really good but some of those colleges (like Harvard) are almost impossible to get into even if you have a perfect SAT and GPA. It must just come down to luck or something because I don’t know how they choose!! All of the other schools though on the tier below the ivies you likely have a good shot at. Chance me back http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1135693-chances-ill-chance-you-back-right-away.html

Tough schools = crap shoot (I’m just gonna start copying and pasting that ;P)
