the numbers are nice, especially the gpa. but the ECs seem very week to me. It seems like you just chose major by the due date of application. So, for RD, try to do at least one related to engineering, then you have better chance at those schools as engineering major :)

and out of those lists of schools, cal tech seems NEAR impossible without some kind of award or extracurriculars related to science/math/engineering.

Your SAT score is too low for those schools but if you are an extremely gifted baseball player, and played club ball, then UCLA might be interested.

actually its more along these lines. so my SAT score is not too low for any of these schools.

The reality is that engineering is uber competitive so your scores have to be above the “average”. Son is at Caltech. His score was 2370, and he’s in engineering. He also got into UCLA; peers had similar scores who also got into Berkeley and UC’s. Plus, son had long list of EC’s and sports. But, you have those scores listed there, so, why believe someone like me, a sports team mom, whose 3 children and teammates have been through the acceptances and admissions at the ivies?

Okay well there are other schools that I listed. Also, I know many people who have gotten into the schools above that had lower SAT scores and fewer ECs previously, and even in admissions last year. thank you @auntbea

Note that engineering schools are more competitive. In addition, having stat within the mid 50 range does not mean you have a great chance. You probably have the chance around or slightly above the admission rate of that school. For any top schools like CalTech and Northwestern, most of the rejected students also have scores within the mid 50 range.
