I looked online for stats about Choate and here is what I found that is incorrect and therefore cannot be trusted.
- The tuition for boarding and day students are way off. Nearly by $10,000.00.
- They list some clubs that they have, but when I visited the campus, I got a whole booklet of pretty much the entire curriculum. If these websites are so accurate, why can’t they go to the schools and ask for a full club list and curriculum booklet?
- There are no Saturday classes at Choate (they told everyone at my interview since my interview was Saturday morning and students were doing the tours).
- On websites, it says that the admissions director is Ray Diffley. I looked on the Choate website, the actual director is Amin Abdul-Malik Gonzalez.
- This is why I sent Choate my argumentative essay.
Wow that really makes me feel better… Hopefully the rate is higher in reality :))
Yeah, I hope so too. But then I think…
There are about 850 students at the school (that’s what they said when I asked)…
If we bring math into this…
850 / 4 ~~ 213 students…
Plus a few drop outs and transfers…
250 slots out of a lot of people applying…
It’s going to be hard…
@XRayKiller3130 I don’t think you can quite do the math like that. I want to say most of the schools build up every graduating class each year. A pretty set number begin in 9th (or whatever the school calls it) and then a good number join the next year. The number seems to fall off significantly from there. Then there are the PGs for some schools…
Therefore, would you say the chances are better or worse for me?
My daughter’s freshman class I think was 190. The Sophomore class is bigger because they add spots for incoming Sophomores. Good Luck everyone. You are all well qualified. Wishing you all many choices.
Thank you so much for your reassurance and the information. I wish the best of luck to your daughter and any future or current applicants reading this.
I think the earlier years are easier for acceptance. I’ve read here that an acceptance for say 11th grade is very hard to come by.
I genuinely hope that is true. It is so hard to get information on how these schools work. It is understandable why, but until March 10th, everyone who has applied to any of the ten boarding schools (and probably more) just has to sit and wait in anxiety.
