I think Cornell, UVA, Tufts and W&M are all reaches for you.
Keep in mind Cornell CHE is very tough due to the in-state tuition break that NYS residents get.

You need to get your SAT up by about 100 points and you must break 700 on all three sections to be competative for these schools.

You’re in an okay spot for Cornell. You have phenomenal EC’s, but your test score is lacking and so is your GPA, and those are the things colleges care about first and the most.

Seeing how there’s little you can do for your GPA if you’re a senior, I’d recommend getting at least a 33 on the ACT. That would put you in the top 25% of applicants, which would make up for your less-than-stellar GPA. But maybe your EC’s are amazing enough to make up for your GPA and Test score. Nonetheless, try to get a 33 or higher on the ACT and maybe even get straight A’s your first semester Senior year. Oh and of course do well on your SAT Subject tests.

The only safeties I can think of are UCSD, UCI, UCD, but I don’t know if you’re from CA or are willing to move there. I don’t really know any safety private schools that I’d want to go to, much less ones you’d want to go to.

Yup, I’m taking the ACT this September and hoping to get at least a 33. Anyone know how any of the colleges I’m applying to looks at the ACT? Like, with the SAT, they look at CR+Math, but what about the ACT? I’ve only been able to find their composite averages…

I feel that with a strong essay and better stats you have a good chance at cornell. Try to do well on acts 33+ and make sure your essay demonstrates your passion to ecology. Gov school is awesome and colleges really like that so that gives you an edge. Good luck!

Cornell is pretty much a reach for everyone school, but you have a great chance especially if you apply ED. You have great ECs and a pretty good GPA with your courseload. Really study to improve the CR section because math and writing are great.

I would say UVA & W&M are are a high match and match, respectively if you’re OOS.

Overall, you have a good shot. Your GPA is a bit low for Schools like Cornell and Tufts! But, your SAT is good so it makes up for it. The ECs and Honors are also good. You are also taking hard courses, which is always great!

Oh yeah, sorry! It’s for sure a safety. I know someone who got in who was an international student and their test scores weren’t that great! I replied to your comment on my thread, go check it out! Good luck!

I would say that your GPA and SATs are your weakest points, so try to get them high as much as possible. You have good ECs though, so I would say Cornell is a reach. I think you can get into the rest though fairly easily. Good Luck !

I think if you raise your SAT you definitely have a chance at Cornell ED… Ecs are really good, and GPA is pretty decent, as long as you were taking hard classes I think it should be fine.
