I also come from a very competitive high school in the Bay Area, but I’m not sure if Cal Poly takes that into account. What do you think my chances of getting accepted into computer science are?
I believe that Cal Poly’s acceptance rate for Comp Sci is somewhere below 10% and most of the students have GPAs above 4.0. Due to this fact, Cal Poly is a reach for you. Did you apply to Cal Poly Pomona as well?
PS The Cal State system does not take into account which school you come from
SLO’s CS acceptance rate is around 10% or less, so your chances are slim with your GPA. Software Engineering is a slightly easier admit so you may want to email admissions to see if you can switch majors prior to admission decisions. Your test scores are competitive but MCA is slightly low and since there is no ED this year, the RD pool of applicants will be very competitive. There are many good schools that would love to accept you so Good Luck.
@sassanh: There is no “cutoff”. It will depend upon the stats of each year’s applicant pool. 4700+ has been competitive for Engineering majors in the past but no guarantees.
@Gumbymom relating to your comment on how the RD pool will be more competitive because there is no longer ED, how do you think that’ll affect the transfer pool?
@Asamuels. I never said the RD pool for Freshman will be more competitive since ED was eliminated but just stated it is a possibility. This should have no effect on Transfers since ED was never an option for Transfers. SLO will still be competitive for Transfers as always.
