What are my chances for Duke ED?

Hi! Do I have any chance in getting into Duke ED or regular decision at Vandy, Rice, UVA, Cornell, William & Mary, UPenn, Northwestern, Georgetown?

Race: White

I am in all the highest classes that my school offers
By the end of senior year, I will have taken 7 AP courses
I got all A-, A, A+s junior year except for a B and B+ in math
I will hopefully get all As this year except for math :) (AP BC Calc)

Extracurriculars
Sports: Tennis team for one season freshman year
Track team for one season junior year
Crew team (both in school and outside of school) every year

Work: Employee and currently an afternoon manager at a Bakery since the summer of sophomore year (year round job)- usually 12 hours/week

Internship: For the past two summers, I have been an intern in a research lab at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD with a prominent scientist. His main project was discovering the effects of estrogen on the levels of stress and anxiety in rats. I worked with the lab rats the first summer and then did several assays the second summer. I was published in the research paper as well! (Two professors at UVA and one professor at Duke have been involved in the same type of research yet seeing the affects on mice instead of rats- do you recommend contacting them?)

Volunteer: In March 2007, I went with a group from school to volunteer in a Romanian Orphanage for a week
This summer (July 2008) I went with Global Routes on a four week trip to Ecuador- I lived with a family in a rural community and built a "casa communal", a "comedor", and painted several buildings with the group
Periodically I volunteer as a candy striper at the local hospital- I already have 72 volunteer hours there
Volunteered at the National Zoo for "Boo at the Zoo" on Oct. 31 2006

Arts: I have played the piano for 6 years, the flute for 4 years, and I am now taking voice lessons (for the past 2 years)
I was a "townsperson" in our schools production of Footloose my freshman year, I've taken both the drama class and the directors class during the school day, and I co-directed a small play in our school's Spring One-Acts (Senior year, I will try out for the winter musical and I will direct another One-Act in the spring)

Clubs: I am a part of the spanish club, the community service club, Pro-Vita Club (supporting the Romanian Orphanage that I worked at- I may become co-president senior year), and the Save Darfur Club

Summers: In addition to working at the lab and traveling to Ecuador, I have gone to a Christian Camp in New Hampshire for 7 years, and this year I attended a Christian Educational Conference in Colorado Springs, CO for 2 weeks (The Summit)

Stats are there, I guess. It all depends on how you portray yourself as a person in your essays and personal statements. If you just come off as a high schooler looking to rack up as much application-fodder as possible then it won’t go over too well. If you show that you really took something from all of these experiences that has made you better as a person, then you will have a better chance.

Good luck. Cheers.

Easy in at Virginia
prob in at W&M, Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Cornell
maybe at Duke, Georgetown, Penn, and Rice

good luck

Wow! Great job! Your EC’s are very good and diverse. I only feel confident with saying that I think you will be admitted to both William and Mary and UVA. Both would be lucky to have you. Your GPA is your only question mark. I think the rest of your app. more than makes up for it.

All that said, PLEASE add a couple of safety schools for your list…just in case. All of the schools you listed could go either way, you know that. I doubt you will be in for any real disappointment.

Best of luck!
