My GPA isn't as high as it could be because I was diagnosed w/ a chronic illness in my sophomore year. I wrote my essay about it, and it should be pretty strong. I know I will get two solid recommendation, one from my English teacher, and one from my Spanish teacher.

thanks in advance for anyone who answers!

bump. por favor…

I think you have a very solid shot as long as you did a good job explaining the reasons for your class rank in your essay.

Obviously if one thing holds you back it will be your class rank. I’m not sure how they’ll take your chronic illness situation. Hopefully they’ll give you a break on that. But how are you only top 25% w/a 3.8 UW gpa. That’s like top 5-10% at my school lol. Overall, you definitely have a fair shot, but you’re certainly not a shoe-in with the questionable class rank. Anyway, good luck and I hope you get in!

about my class rank… i’m not sure exactly where i stand right now. my class has about 500 students, and i’m going to guess i’m about 50 or 60. they don’t weight, so a lot of kids who take core classes and get all a’s are ahead of me. i wish i knew my current rank but i don’t. it is better than top 25. i don’t even know why i put that anymore.

I know one student who was accepted EA with broadly similar measurables last year – I’d say you have a very good chance and wish you every success.

if you’re in the top 50, then that’s top 10%.

so does your school not even rank AP classes? if not, isn’t that not allowed since collegeboard regulates that?.. the no weighting the grades seems a bit harsh.. people who took core classes at my school wouldn’t be in the top 15% at all, and rarely would they be in the top 20%

okay, so i’m in the top 14 or 15 percent. i wish it was better. i still don’t know my rank when it’s weighted, but i do have one of the most rigorous schedules.

if you’re in any AP classes, those should be weighted to the 5.0 scale.. honors and pre-ap are obviously at the discretion of the school, but usually these get at least some extra quality point… if you have a rigorous schedule, i’m sure you weighted GPA will be higher than your unweighted, and that should help your rank out if those above you aren’t in as many high-end courses
