^ good chance ED i think, RD might be more difficult. I think you’re a good all round candidate. the asian part will hurt you, the female part should help. you’re ECs are very diverse and this is a big plus, you come off as being multi talented, with different interests and thus good for fu. however, you seem to be doing far too many things, and not achieving highly in most. this is a real problem. i would not retake the SAT if you’re applying ED to fu, delve into ECs try to get some more recognition over the next month if that is even remotely possible, otherwise you have a good shot. it is going to be difficult though, so don’t expect a thick envelope.

When people say “GPA” without “W” or “UW” is that generally referring to their weighted or unweighted GPA?

Generally if it’s over 4.0 then it’s weighted.. if it isn’t, it’s usually not  (considering where we’re applying) my school’s weird… they weigh it funny… B in AP is 3.5, but A in AP is 4.0… On the transcript 10 pts is added in for APs… and we don’t get free grades… if you have a high B in AP, chances are, you’re getting a 5 or a 4.

Thanks. That’s what my friends/counselor are telling me: that I definitely have a shot, but it definitely isn’t a sure in. So… I shouldn’t retake the SATs? Wouldn’t getting a 2300+ combined help? As for ECs… There really isn’t much in the next month or so… I am fairly confident that Science Bowl should take state this year.. but that’s not until January :frowning: and the Concerto Competition isn’t until 2nd semester sigh
And is it bad to mention a rejection from an engineering camp on the essay? (for ‘something that seemed like the end of the world’ if I got into something else instead and enjoyed it (moral: everything turns out for the better)…?

Thanks for clearing that up. In that case, 3.976 UW, good job =]

My school is a bit weird too, in that getting an A+ can bring you over a 4.0 UW. It is my understand that getting a 100 average (in one’s dreams of course) will earn you a 4.3 UW.

no, retaking the SATs would not make a fig’s worth of difference.

With regards to your question about the rejection from engineering camp - I had a similar essay about “overcoming fear of failure” in my application the first time I applied. (I took a gap year, applied again and got in the 2nd time). Reading it again now, it comes across as kind of whiny, and allows the admissions officer to view me as someone for whom rejection and failure have such a prominent place in my thoughts that I made it the subject of my admissions essay. Even if it’s just an oblique reference you’d like to make, my advice would still be to stick to things that are positives about your personality and character.
