I think I'm applying to Oxford at Emory early action and Emory regular decision. What are my chances? Emory's one of my top choices right now, and I really hope I will get in!

Your chances appear to be good. If you could get your GPA up slightly, you should be fine. Also, focus on the activities you have the most interest in senior year; colleges don’t like to see a laundry list of extracurriculars on the application. Be sure to write good essays as well on your college app. Good luck… Emory is an amazing college! BTW, be sure to consider Rice as well :)

Your GPA is pretty good, but could be higher. BUT seeing as you’re in the top 5%, maybe your school just grades harshly. You’re fine with your 1410 SAT CR+M (I don’t know if they consider W). I had a 1410 as well. This year’s average SAT score was 1394 I believe, but the average UW GPA was 3.82.

WARNING: If you do the Emory app (not commonapp), there are only 3 spots to put ECs down [and another spot for a job]. I had more than 3 ECs, but I did the Emory app anyway and got admitted.

I genuinely believe Emory admissions is a very GPA heavy process.

Emory RD 2008: UW GPA: 3.75 all ap’s/honors/top 7% of class…1440 m/v 32 ACT yada, yada, yada…waitlisted…

BUT, you have demographics in your favor.(asian, southeast)…therefore, decent chance although if you really want Emory, I would apply ED if I were you and forget about Oxford…

I was waitlisted with a 2200(1500/1600…Critical Reading and Math), and a class rank of top 15 percent…I had 10 A.Ps. + 7 honors classes out of 28 total classes(thats 17/28)…My unweighted gpa was 3.8 and weighted gpa was 4.1…Emory told me “we don’t look at class rank, we look more at unweighted gpa”…but I don’t know how true that is…(I eventually got off the waiting list, 3 weeks after I was waitlisted)

You have a great chance of getting in, even though they say they don’t look at class rank, your rank would be taken into consideration because your school must grade hard…
