CaptainFalcon, if RD doesn’t work out, you should definitely apply as a transfer. I think you’ll get in.

The only question is whether you’ll want to leave your college for Emory at that point.

Lanessa: Your ECs are great, but even though you have URM status, the ACT will hurt a lot. I’m going to be honest about that. You may want to consider Oxford (you’re low there score wise, but your GPA helps some, and the ECs shine). I think even a URM (I am one as well) applying to Emory should have near the 25% of enrolled (not necessarily admitted) students which is between 1250-1300 on the SAT which converts to maybe 28-29 on ACT. Ideally, you would have at minimum 27. The chances are really not good for RD and probably just as low or worse for EDII as you have financial need (the best that may happen is that they defer you to RD where your chances will decline dramatically). I could be wrong, but this is mainly what I see from an objective point of view. I can see them maybe letting you in for ECs (which show some academic caliber). Another question may be, did your HS offer APs, and did you take any and do well on an exam? If not, it may have been nice if you self-studied and took some AP exams to show some strength. I’m just sure that they would be concerned if your courses were supposedly rigorous, you got a great GPA, but then scored 24 on ACT (my AP/honors courses probably actually helped me to score well on SAT and I don’t consider myself to be among the best MC test takers whether at Emory or before it. My social science and language arts courses helped me kill verbal and writing for example: both 750+. Just damn the math and me loving calculus and hating the simple algebra behind it lol. And despite the math being below 700, I had AP exam scores to suggest that I’m decent at science/math. Scored well on AP biology and chemistry). You may be bad at that type of testing situation, but again, a 26-29 is likely expected.

Ok, so basically the only thing hurting me is my ACT score. What if I take it again in February, will they take that score?

And as far as AP’s go, my school only offers English, World History, and Calculus. I made a 2 on the English, didn’t take the World History but took the class, and plan to take the calculus this year

Yeah, GPA good, ECs great. Try to score well on calculus if you can (maybe if you are unfortunately waitlisted or something it’ll be taken into consideration), and maybe see if Emory will take an ACT score after the app. deadline (try again if you can) because I’m not sure (maybe ask).
