I'm currently a junior in high school. I have been taking high school courses since seventh grade (I went to a gifted middle school & took algebra 1 & Spanish 1 in seventh grade) My high school GPA in seventh & eighth grade was a 3.75. In ninth grade, I took four honors classes (including algebra 2/trig but I got a high C there, my school is on the seven point scale) I got A's in everything else. The same goes for my sophomore year except I took one AP class & got an A both semesters. I took honors Pre Calculus... I got a high D in the first semester then got a C in the last semester (math isn't my strongest subject as you see...) but I got A's in all. My other classes. This year I'm taking three AP classes. My GPA freshman year was 4.06, sophomore year 3.92 and this year, for the first semester, 3.98. I'm ranked 25/580 so pretty good...I recently got my SATs back and I'm HIGHLY disappointed. I took a prep class & everything. I got: CR: 480, Math: 510, Writing: 600. I am taking it a few more times...that was my first time.. I was very unfocused because my father was in the hospital. But I am not using that as an excuse...anyway. my ECs involve teaching children's church, other church activities, honor society, Spanish honor society (I went up to Spanish four), I student aide, feeding the homeless, volunteering (plan to do more in the summer) & that's all I can think of on the top of my head... so do you think I have what it takes to get into George Mason?

Anyone???

Your GPA is good (and you are taking challenging courses). Your EC’s are definitely decent. But you need to focus on raising your SAT score…

What score should I be striving for?

Definitely raise your SAT. Try aiming for 1800 next time around.

Generally, a score around 2000 is considered adequate. If the college also accepts the ACT, try that instead… you may score better.

I got in with a 3.15 UW and a 1630 SAT you should be fine maybe a little higher SAT score and you’re good :)
