The application for Georgetown is due in a few short days, and I am panicking. Even though I know it is a bit of a reach, I still REALLY want to get accepted into the SFS.
My strengths:
I am the valedictorian of my class (4.3 weighted GPA).
I have leadership positions in all my EC’s.
I have a 1550 on my SAT and a 31 on my ACT.
I have a good personal essay.
My weaknesses:
The SFS school specific essay.
I guess my question is, will one bad essay destroy my chance to get accepted? While I am still trying to make it better, I have been significantly struggling to organize and effectively convey my message :/.
Also, I should add that I have not taken any SAT II tests even though they recommend taking. oops
Am I hopeless?
If you really wanted to go there, you should have taken care of the little things. You have the stats (great SAT, and Grown loves valedictorians). But if you want to be at the SFS, it should be clear through your essay. SFS is a special place, with a unique curriculum that isn’t for everyone. I don’t think your chances are destroyed, but I think you were essentially guaranteed admission had everything been to a high standard.

Without your SAT IIs, your chances are very low (except if the reason you didn’t take them was difficulty accessing the tests, for financial reasons or if you’re an international).
SFS is a very specific type of character. They don’t necessarily look for the highest stats (I got in EA without the highest stats, 2210 SAT and 3.8-3.9ish GPA, not top of my class), but for people who care deeply about the world and who show a genuine interest for politics. Just my take.
I second @yonceonhismouth. I was straight up accepted EA to SFS this year with a 31 ACT, 3.8 GPA, and 700, 600, and 490 on subject tests. I think they just want to see that you took them. Did you sign up for the January tests?
