So i applied to UC Berkeley to the Major "Egyptian Civilizations." I took a few art classes and a Western Civilizations class. But my cumulative Jc gpa was a 3.5. Im on PTK and doing the Honors Program for UCLA. The thing is I did 1 semester at a university in canada, and I got 2 F's and 1 D. I redid one of the classes that I got an F in and got an A at my community college. I could not redo the two other classes because there was not an equivalent class. If you factor in those grades from canada with my JC gpa I will have a 3.2. I talked with the Berkeley representative and she said I should relax because she would be shocked if I did not get into Berkeley. She said I will probably get in, because "Egyptian Civilizations" is not impacted and My gpa is still very good. What do you think?

Everything the Berkeley rep said seems reasonable and fairly accurate.

the admissions stats for UCLA’s letters and science last year:
[Profile of Admitted Transfer Students by Major, Fall 2011 - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/Tr_Prof11_mjr.htm)

as you can see, there are a couple of majors to which only a few applied. earth and environmental sciences, for example, had 26 applicants and only 2 were accepted. the average applied gpa was 3.09 and the average admitted was 3.52. what i’m trying to get at is that top universities like berkeley are not gonna admit everyone to a certain major just because it’s not impacted. they have prestige to uphold, so they’d rather let a few empty seats go unfilled than bring down their average admitted gpa and other statistics.

i think you have a chance because you have a good academic trend and extracurricular activities, but you also have to note that there are multiple applicants like you who are trying to get into schools like berkeley via unimpacted majors.

i just thought i should give you another perspective because most people like to give out blank assurances just to make you feel better.
