What are my chances for getting into Carnegie Mellon?

Ok well here is what I have done so far in high school. I have a 3.41 GPA overall, but my junior GPA was a 3.6, and the last quarter was a 3.91. My SAT scores are ok, being a 1960, but I have strong SAT II scores with a 730 in Math I and a 730 in Chem. The big thing for me is I have a lot of extra curricular activities, being president of 3 clubs, starting a club, being in Model UN and Model Congress, being a top singer in my school, being a senior prefect chosen by the principal, and I have 200+ hours of community service. Do I have what it takes to get into Carnegie Mellon? And what are my chances for other elite schools? Thanks!

You seem to have decent ECs (strong leadership), lower than average SAT I scores, quite low GPA, average SAT II scores, and average community service.

You have a shot but at the moment the school is a mid-reach.

I just took my first practice ACT score and got a 32…How does that help?

32 translates to around 2150 on the SAT. GPA is still too low; same with SAT II. Get a 32 ACT, get 760+ SAT IIs, and then CMU will become high target/low reach.

Too bad you cannot change GPA.

if it looks like your GPA is going up that can help too. you should still apply. you’ve made yourself stand out, they could definitely still see something in you.

My GPA has been going up since freshman year… What else can I do besides have a solid first semester senior year… Im also doing 2 internships over the summer and visited the campus how much does that help me?

I forgot to add that I was 7th in a national stock game in investopedia.com that had over 20,000 people competing…

Boost your GPA dude,
And also while you’re at it try upping your SAT
Same question for me,
I got a 93 average for my junior year, 3.8 uw for sopho and freshman,
1380 CR+W, 780 Math2 740 Physics 800 Chinese,
President of a club and created my own website,
what do you guys think, Carnegie Mellon reach, or match for me?
Thanks!

ignore those that say you have too low of a GPA…that stuff is nonsense…you have a shot, just show carnegie how much you want to go there and how much it would benefit the school if you were accepted

since you cant change your GPA now just go for a 34+ on the ACT and insane essays then you can do it!

Hmm I slightly disagree with all the people who think you should retake your SAT subject tests, but I think you should retake your SAT reasoning test. Your GPA could use some work, but it’s too late for that.

Your best bet is to up your SAT reasoning score, and you should be set.(:
GLUCK! :D

Your stats (except your SAT score) sound very similar to those of a friend of mine who got into CMU with a massive scholarship, so you’re looking good so far. Definitely try to raise that score to a 2100 (at the very least), though.

It depends on which school you will apply.
If you will apply for CS, that’s a reach. You need to bring up your GPA and test scores.
If CIT, I think you are fine, just keep “what you are” now.
If other schools (IS, HSS…), you are totally fine, good match.

Im applying for CIT…

Is there any other engineering schools that I should focus on as well as CMU that I have a good shot at?

32 ACT is decent for Carnegie Mellon University.
Best of luck to you.

Georgia Tech is a good reach school for you.
