What are my chances for Harvard College

Hi everyone,

I recently received a mail from Harvard College includes application forms and it states that I might be a candidates for their college. Also, they want to draw my attention particularly to the special opportunities available there in the various scientific and mathematical disciplines. It kind of directs me to consider their New School of Engineering and Applied Science as well.

I am planning to apply to Harvard now since I received their mail, but I don't really know my chances. Does it mean I have a better chance of getting in because I receive a packet of application forms from them and it showed what they are interested about me (science and math)?

I did take a lot of science and math class. Algebra I and II, Geometry, Pre-AP PreCalculus, AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, Pre-AP and AP Biology, Pre-AP and AP Chemistry and Pre-AP Physics. I am in a lot other extra curriculum as well (VP for Key Club, National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society and Art Club, National Spanish Honor Society and our school's mentoring program )Also, my GPA is 4.125 (weighted) and ranked 36 (692 total students). However, my SAT scores are bad, only 1700. Math 670, Reading 570 and Writing 460. I took my ACT too, and waiting for the scores right now. (Do you recommend to send both SAT and ACT score? or just send the ACT score if it is higher than SAT?)
I am taking my SAT subject tests on Dec. 3 (Math II, Chemistry and US History). Will this increase my chances of getting in if I have really high scores?

Any thoughts on this?
Thank you so much for taking your time to read this and comment it!

With a 1700, not going to happen. And no, Harvard sends application info to LOTS of people to increase the applicant numbers, it will not give you any advantage. If you have time to study for and retake your SATs, you may have a better chance, but as of now your info doesn’t stand out.

unless the email specifically and clearly tells you to apply for a special reason, it’s very close to zero percent acceptance. like Hopeful2016 said, these emails are sent out to publicize their institution and possibly, if they word it carefully enough, inspire false hope to increase the pool.

You have very low chances and no the mail does not mean anything special. Unless you get at least 32+ on the AcT, u probly have no chance
