What are my chances for Harvard or Tufts?

Hello, I am a junior who has started to think about college and I was thinking about applying to some reach schools in the future, and I was wondering about my chances. I do not have the highest expectations and I have other options, so if I did not get in I could handle it.

My resume is

3.57 gpa unweighted

1950 SAT

I took 5 AP’s (Euro, US History, Bio, Lang, Lit) I got 5’s on Euro, US, and Bio and 4’s on lang and lit.)

Besides the AP courses I have mostly taken honor courses with the exceptions of regular prep geo my freshmen year.

I also have numerous academic awards

Member of schools science club for 3 years

Member of schools history club for 3 years

Member of Schools community service club for 3 years (I held leadership positions for all 4 years)

Member of environmental club for 3 years (Held leadership positions junior and senior year)

National Honor Society 1 year

Spanish Honor Society 1 year

Volunteer at camp for children with disabilities for four years

Volunteer at shelter for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault victims where I was a youth leader whose main job was to spread awareness about sexual assault and domestic violence

I was the youngest person on the planning committee of an organization that helped with the environment for 4 years

I volunteered at the towns historical for 4 years where I also became the youngest person on the board of directors

I know I will have excellent recommendations and all the classes I took connected to my extracurricular interests as well. I would hope that would soon commitment to the fields I am interested in (the environment, history, and helping people)

Also sorry for making this post seem long I just wanted to double space my list, because I am a bit ocd about those things. Overall I know my gpa and sat are on the lower side and my courses even though they were more rigorous than average American student they are not the best. I was wondering do any of my achievements outside of school count for anything and would they help. Also I know I have senior year to improve and take more difficult classes and rack up more community service/club time and leadership positions, but I imagine one year won’t make too much of a difference. I would like to thank the people who respond in advance for their time and patience :).

“I volunteered at the towns historical museum for 4 years where I also became the youngest person on the board of directors”- Sorry I just had to fix the typo after historical.

Low SAT for Harvard and Tufts; I think you’re outside of the middle 50% for both. Try to get it up in to the middle 50 at least. Your GPA is lacking as well as the amount of college courses… but you recognize that. Your ECs look amazing tho, even though some of them are very vague. Overall… Reach at Tufts and High Reach at Harvard.

I was kinda vague because it is late and I didn’t feel like writing too much. Thank you very much for your feed back. Does anyone have suggestions about schools that are more realistic for me. Normally I would use the college match search engine but I personally believe that someone’s opinion and first hand experience is more reliable than some computer search engine.

@jamespeytons96‌ It really depends on what you want to major in… for engineering and comp sci there’s UT Austin, GA Tech, and UIUC… for Music there’s Oberlin and conservatories… for business there’s Stern(NYU)… What do you want to major in?

I was thinking about stern but I doubt I could get in there. I heard the rumored acceptance rate to stern is around 12 %. If anyone has first hand experience applying to Stern I would love to hear about it. Overall I was leaning towards finance at a business school or economics at at a liberal arts. The location doesn’t really matter, preferably on the east coast though in an urban environment. Like I said before normally I would use college search engines but the thing I don’t like about the college board search engine and the match search engine is that they can’t take into account ECs or other stuff. I feel like the search engines quantify the college search process too much and take away the human element.

UCLA sounds like a great fit… The only downside is the west coast. Big metropolitan feel, great school, tons of opportunities. Lots of others to look at tho. Good luck!

Thanks I will have things to look into.

I think that your scores are a bit too low for these unis. They are reaches. Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1726672-i-will-chance-you-back.html#latest

Your test scores are a very weak component of your application and will undoubtedly be your downfall. Bring up your SAT’s and you might have a chance! I got an 1840 on the SAT during the end of my junior year and brought it up to a 2080 just by studying two weeks before the test in the fall. I’ll most likely bring it to a 2150-2200 with superscore. Remember that schools like Harvard are a reach for everyone, with 2400’s getting rejected left and right.
please chance me back
