hello=D thanks for reading this, i'm going to be a senior next year. so yeah, i know i'll be sending college apps in 4 months, so i would like to here some advices on what kind of college do i expect to get in (aka is Harvard possible for me?).
here's my tiny list of achievements:

-# of AP classes taken: 10 (this number will be 16 by the end of senior year)

-weighted GPA: 4.56 (this number will be 4.70 by the end of next year) un weighted Commulative GPA: 4.0

-AP exam scores: 5 on seven tests, 4 on one tests, 3 on two tests (i'm really worried about this, should i even show colleges i got a 3?). and i hope to get all 5's on the six exams i'm going to take next year (which i don't think even matters for college)

-SAT 2360

-SATII: 800 for math 2, 800 for physics, i would rather not mentions other scores (i admit that i suck at history, both us and world)...

EC (all of them are from my 9th/10th/11th grade, i don't think college even cares what people do in senior year as long as their grades are okay):
-science olympiad for 3 years (6 awards in total)
-twice AIME qualifier
-USAMO qualifier (only junior year)
-2 small clubs' VP (i don't think this matters much)
-USAMTS bronze (sad face)
-physics olympiad semi-finalist (again, only junior year)
-community service : ~350hours from several clubs

please also give some recommendations about college app (like what to put and what not to put, what interests colleges the most...etc)
thanks a lot!

Great SAT scores, great GPA, but ECs don’t seem to have a direction though, maybe somehow formulate that into an essay? Make sure your essays and recommendations are in place and you’ve definitely got chances at Harvard =)

What’s your ethnicity, gender, and location? If you’re an Asian male, for example, I’d be worried about how much diversity you actually would add to Harvard which I’d say is not much as a plenty of Asians achieve in math and science.

You have a great SAT score and GPA. That being said, your ECs are only average, but I honestly think that that may not be a big deal for you since you have stellar academics. So, I think that you have a decent chance. But, it’s still Harvard; therefore, it’s still a reach. So, apply to a few safeties. Chance me back?

Congrats on those accomplishments, yet as an Asian and achieving mainly in math/science, you’re not gonna stand out from other Asian applicants very well. So you may have a shot, but competeition is tough and even tougher for Asians.

ok…seems like i have little chance for Harvard, what about MIT/Caltech/Berkeley/Princeton? please chance me on these adn i’ll chance you back if you want

i dont know why people are saying his ECs are not amazing. Qualifying for USAMO once and AIME multiple times are great schievements. Plus he did well on other olympiads and even has a lot of volunteering hours. I think his ECs will only give him a large boost in admissions to the top schools, especially to MIT etc.

MIT might be more impressed but Harvard won’t be.

There is no reason to declare any AP scores in your application. It is not part of the application requirements for any school other than state any AP honors.

You’re at the point where it’s reasonable that you can make it in, the problem is that there are a lot of others in the same boat. It’s almost like a lottery I guess lol.

Niiiiice awards, I think if you want to go to Harvard, you need a really honest essay to tie everything together. Diversity goes beyond skin color, not every asian male is the same, and since its harvard and judging from the kinds of people that are applying from my school (in Canada, City-wide magnet for intense asians). Some of the kids will be really dishonest about their passions. As part of the asian stereotype is that parents make us do everything, if you are someone that embodies a lot of enthusiasm and you are genuine about them, I believe you have a very good shot. This past year a girl I met at Canada-wide science fair who got in with a lower SAT, less impressive awards and fewer ECs. and guess what? She’s asian. But i guess what set her apart was her genuine nature, she’s not from an ultra-competitive magnet and she really loved Harvard.

lol i was totally going to write a perfect college app essay on college confidential and check it 1000 times until it had neither typo nor grammar error…c’mon it’s internet…
