All the schools I’ve spoken with consider writing equally. I’ve asked a Bowdoin rep and a Williams rep.

Redroses, my college counselor has been at my school for several decades and he is friends with many admissions officers at top tier schools. I already know that my interest in philosophy alone is not a hook. What makes it a small hook is that I’ve started philosophy related clubs and taken a for-credit philosophy course over the summer (at Yale). Anyone can say he/she is interested in an academic subject, but it is the demonstrated interest that means something. Also, keep in mind that there is barely any philosophy curriculum at my school. Therefore, my demonstrated interest in philosophy also shows my intellectual persistence.

It’s a nice interest, but not a hook of any size.
