Going into my senior year...

3.8 GPA (UW)

No AP classes, but I will take AP Calc and AP Eco next year. I went from regents classes frosh year to honors classes soph and junior year, now AP next year

30 ACT

My extracurriculars are admittedly pretty weak...all I have are 2 sports and an instrument. No other clubs, no leadership experience, and no comm service (but I will start).

I have plenty of safety/target schools, but here are my possible reaches:

Boston College
University of Virginia
University of Michigan
Carnegie-Mellon
UC Berkeley
Brown University

I'm OOS for all, and white.

Pretty much goes in order of my confidence level. I know I have probably no chance at the last 2. Chance me please? Thanks!

Which of these would be worth it for me to apply to?

You need a more rigorous course, better ACT or SAT…its kind of late to start community hours…you need something to set you apart…which of the things you listed does that? Start there.

Well I’m confident that I can raise my ACT’s to at least 31 or 32. As for community service, if I were to do 50 hours between now and when I apply, would the college see when I did the service, or just how much?

100 is a better base #…try finding something you enjoy so it doesnt seem like tedious work hours! when are you applying? i’m not sure about those questions, sorry :S

Okay, so then your GPA and ACT will be very good – what’s your class rank? School competitivity? I think Berkeley and Brown are high reaches.

I’m applying regular decision, and I think just barely out of the top 10%. Average (maybe a little above average) public school. I know Berkeley and Brown would be almost impossible, but what do you think about the other ones?
