What are my chances for San Diego State?

Hi,
I applied to San Diego State University as a first time freshman for the fall 2019-2020 year. I applied to the pre-nursing program and I am wondering what my chances are.
Here are my stats:
I am out-of-state
ACT: 27
GPA: (normal unweighted: 3.88 weighted: 3.94) but the CSU application calculated my gap to be a 4.36.

Any replies would be appreciated! Thank you!

I also was just given “provisional admission” to the pre-nursing program at California State Long Beach with the same application.

@izaxel, SDSU has a direct admit Nursing program for Freshman so it is far more competitive than CSULB since you are basically in the program (as long as you maintain GPA/grades) although technically you start as a a Pre-Nursing major. CSULB requires you complete the pre-req courses before applying for the Nursing school so there is no guarantee.

Here are the stats for the last few years for SDSU Nursing admits and you can compare your chances. Your CSU GPA is based on 10-11th grades only so that is why it might be higher. Also only AP/IB courses are considered for the extra weighting in the calculation so if you listed some HS Honors courses in your application, your GPA might be artificially elevated than actual.

CSULB is a tough admit so congratulations and being OOS you have the $$ advantage since CSU’s are always looking for the extra tuition OOS students provide.

You are definitely within range so best of luck for SDSU.

@Gumbymom
Great thank you! Do you know if I can still go to SDSU and major in a different area if I do not get accepted into the nursing program? Or if I am denied by the nursing program I am also denied to SDSU in general?

SDSU does not consider alternate majors in their admission decisions, so if you applied for Nursing and are denied that is the final decision.

@izaxel I hope you get into the SDSU Direct Admit Nursing program! You have a great CSU GPA. My daughter is currently a sophomore in the program, and loves it. Because it is direct admit, and the students are not competing with one another to stay in the program, it is a very cohesive and supportive atmosphere. She chose to live in the dorms with the nursing students, and that was a great decision for her. They study together, support each other, and share books if they are on different “maps”. I do remember the nursing major is usually the last to hear of decisions once SDSU starts sending them out. Good luck to you!!!

@CSUdream
Thank you for the extra info! That sounds like a great atmosphere and I’m excited to here back from them, even if it takes a little longer than other programs/majors haha.
