What are my chances for some California colleges?

I’m looking to apply to these colleges: UCSD, UCSB, UCI, SJSU, CPP, and CPSLO. I’m looking to major in either engineering or architecture.

My stats (not counting PE and non A-G):

Sophomore:

  • English 2 A-/A
  • Math Analysis A-/A-
  • Chemistry B+/A
  • AP World History B/B
  • French 1 A/A-
  • Intro to Biology C

(I took Intro to Bio at a community college over summer and I’m not sure if it counts as one or two semesters and exactly how I would use it to calculate GPA. Would I just say one C or two C’s?).

Junior:

  • English 3 A-/
  • US History A/
  • AP Physics 1 A/
  • Web Design B/
  • French 2 A/
  • AP Calc AB A-/

I’m not sure what I’ll get for second semester but I’m looking at about the same grades (5 A’s, 1 B) or maybe straight A’s.

My latest SAT score is a 1900 and I understand it is a low score for my prospective colleges but I know I’m gonna get at least 2000 by October 2015.

My high school EC’s are:

  • Volunteer tutor at library, taught middle schoolers. 90 hours
  • 3 year Martial Arts Club member. Treasurer this year and looking to be VP or Pres senior year.
  • 1 year Vietnamese Club member.
  • 2 year track member, in varsity this year
  • cofounder and developer (artist) of an international indie game development team (it’s been a year since the team was founded). Fancy wording for “I draw stuff for a game.”

Other Stats:
Asian, Male
~$45k income group
In-state

You are on track with your grades except for the C in Sophomore year. EC’s are decent and aiming for a 2000+ SAT will help. At the end of your Junior year, calculate your UC/CSU GPA: http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

For Cal Poly SLO, use the same calculator but include 9th grades with no extra Honors points for your SLO GPA.

Difficult to chance since you do not have a definite GPA or SAT score.

UCSD/SLO will be your toughest acceptances and you want to be above the 50th percentile in your Stats for the best chances.

Both majors are competitive so keep up the good work and repost with your GPA and scores at the end of your Junior year.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Yea, I’m really disappointed I got a C in biology to blemish my grades.

At this point, I feel like only a good SAT score will help make up for my C so I’ve been studying really hard. I’m taking my first SAT this month so I’ll get a better idea of where I stand on acceptance chance.
