I have applied to Stanford and I want to know what my chances are of getting in and if you have any suggestions as to what I could have done better please respond. Thank You
So what are my chances of getting into Stanford?

respond please!!!

respond please i need to know

I think you have a fair chance.
what are your safeties?

how were your essays?
what did u write about?

You have nothing special. Nothing that you have done shows any personality or passion for going to Stanford or being a doctor. You have nothing that sets you apart for the other 1000 people who apply to this college.

Your hours at the hospital mean absolutely nothing as:
A) Everyone(I mean everyone) does it.
B) It has nothing to do with the actual Medical Field except for the fact that you are in a Hospital
C) Colleges know that it is pointless.

Curriculum doesn’t seem too rigorous. ECs are not up to par. Do you do well in Debate/Speech? Do you have any status at prestigious competitions? Participation does not get you anything.

“I took extra classes over the summer to get ahead of the other freshmen”
-Have you looked at the Common Data Set for Stanford? They don’t look at Class Rank at all in the admissions process. This shouldn’t be your main hook. What is your Weighted GPA in comparison to others in your High School?

That’s a little harsh.

The commitment you have made to your ECs sure shows passion, so while you haven’t won a Siemens or Intel award, it doesn’t mean that your application is completely lacking. And IMO, your course load for junior year is impressive. What did you write about for your Common App essay? Your trip to India would have made a good topic.

I think you have a good shot at Stanford. But you know what- it’s a crapshoot. You’re in a pool of many, many overqualified applicants. They’ve got enough perfect applications to fill their class four times over, which means that plenty of excellent applicants will get rejected. It might happen, but if it does, know that come fall, you will probably be over it. The nice thing about American higher education is that you’ve got too many great choices to waste time by obsessing over one school.

I’m guessing you’re Indian, since you said your aunt’s hospital was in India.
Stanford is a reach for you. Your ECs are weak and your curriculum is average at best. If you were a URM you might have a chance but you’re Indian and that doesn’t help, especially with the lack of international, national, or even statewide recognition.

Hm, it seems to me you’re strong in your coursework and volunteer hours, but passion and heart might be what Stanford is looking for… you’re a strong applicant, but so are the others; I would say it is a high reach for you still.

When it comes to schools like stanford no one really knows for sure. Just apply and see what happens

i also wrote a case study about the hospitals in india and their quality
and I won the travis b lucas scholorship and other awards
and my personal statement is about my trip to india
rice or northwestern are other universities i want to go to

and if IBAPMan’s name starts with a M. Get off this post please

Hello my Indian Friend, my comrad,

IB is the norm within all schools. Every qualified applicant has this program. That is nothing special.

umkc’s 6 year program is another

That program is not that prestigious.

Also, you only go there if you want to finish school early, not because you want to be a good doctor.

IB, actually, is incredibly rigorous. Just because some schools have the IB program doesn’t make it any less rigorous. More schools have AP than the full IB program and the original poster has done well in it (given through his unweighted 4.0).

to pava - your numbers/courses/and such are strong, but with top schools like Stanford, there usually needs to be something absolutely, hands down remarkable within an applicant that shows clearly through his/her application. I can see from the information you’ve given that you have an interest in forensics/medicine/international work (please correct me if I’m wrong)-- passion for something is something colleges look for in applicants and I hope you strongly conveyed that through your application. Stanford is a reach for everyone (sorry to say, but it’s true), but not entirely impossible. My close friend was accepted early action last December and I guess that Stanford saw something that they love in him, perhaps his incredible talent and love for dance.

“and if IBAPMan’s name starts with a M. Get off this post please”

I don’t fully understand what you are trying to convey through this notion, sorry if you took offense, because I was being quite frank about your chances. It just seems as if you are concentrated on the unimportant things that everyone in the world does. It just seems through your post that you would want to go to Stanford because of prestige, not to actually learn. Sorry if my post seemed a bit offensive.

How many NFL points (just wondering - I’ve got ~ 700)

The thing is, you’ve got alot of great stuff but nothing really stands out.

I second IBAPman’s post. You have doubtful chances. And if what he said about Stanford not looking @ classrank is true, then it is really doubtful.

SAT SCORES??!!?

Oh wow, how people are critical.
Honestly, you probably have good a chance as anyone else. Don’t freak out, relax- with those grades and scores, you’ll end up at an amazing place no matter what. Don’t fret about what “you could have done better.”

Okay - Whoever says that the IB program is not rigorous at all should take their head and YANK it out of their arses. Seriously, the IB program is wayyyy more rigorous than the AP program - trust me, my program forces us to do both. IB makes you write a 1500-2000 research paper in history and a 4000 word research paper on anything else. The fact that this person took a so many HL’s is also already really impressive.

Anyway, your testing is fine (34 ACT) and your EC’s while not stellar, show passion. You have as strong of a chance as any candidate to Stanford.

On a side note, what did you manage to get on the IB tests? I’m super interested.
