Hello all, I’m currently finishing up my last semester at a community college in Texas and planning on transferring to the University of Texas at Austin. My GPA is currently a 3.94 out of 4 due to one B that I made in a dual credit class in high school. My first choice is the Jackson School of Geosciences. I am currently taking Calc 2 and Engineering Physics 1. I have completed Chemistry 1 and 2 and have received all A’s in the courses I have taken at my community college. I have two letters of recommendations, one from my geology professor and one from my physics professor. Thing is I don’t have that many EC’s, I just work 20 hours a week at a country club. I was wondering if anyone knows if UT Austin will be a good place for me and what are my chances of getting in? By the time I transfer I should have 62 credit hours.

I can’t find transfer statistics for Jackson. It is pretty hard to have higher grades than what you have and 20 hours of work per week should cancel out lack of ECs.
There is no way for anyone here to answer your question about whether UT is a good place for you though. You have to visit and decide. It is certainly not for everyone.
Jackson School of Geosciences
Transfers
Transfer applicants should have the following credit:
CHEM 301
GEO 401
MATH 408C, 408K or 408N
Environmental Science
Environmental Science (Geological Sciences) majors should have credit for:
BIO 311C, CHEM 301 and MATH 408C, 408K or 408N with grades of at least a C-minus
GEO 401 or 303 with a grade of at least a B-minus
Do you know how to find equivalents of your CC classes to UT classes?
@“Ya Ya” All the classes I’ve taken have come off of a transfer guide list for community college students trying to transfer into Jackson. I’m not necessarily applying to the Environment Science program within Jackson, instead I’m applying for General Geology (B.S). I believe that I have met all the requirements but I feel like that’s not enough. I’ve taken all my basics, Chem 1 and 2, Calculus 1, Physical Geology (GEO401 Equivalent). I’m super worried for some reason though. What do you think my chances are based on my stats I posted earlier?
I don’ know about chances.
It is a very small school, and I sometimes feel it is overlooked by students.
Once a geology professor who taught UGS 303 class said that her goal was to make as many students as possible to transfer from UGS to Geology.
@“Ya Ya” do you think not visiting will make a difference in the decision making progress? I mean I’ve been to the campus a ton, just never an official tour.
