What are my chances for these schools?

Hi everyone, I just graduated from a private Jesuit high school and I am taking a gap year. I’m looking to apply to schools with strong finance programs.

Here are the schools I’m applying to:
-Boston College*
-IU Bloomington (really only applying for Kelley)
-Santa Clara University
-SMU
-UNC Chapel Hill*
-USC*
-University of Wisconsin-Madison
-Villanova
-UCs (UCSB, UCSD, UCLA, UC Berkeley*, UC Davis)
-Cal Poly SLO

  • designates reach schools

Here are my stats:
-3.5 UW
-4.0 W
-6 APs: Literature (4), Language and composition (4), French (5), Gov (4), US History (4), Calc AB (2) oops
-33 ACT (34E, 34M, 34R, 30S) looking to superscore, could probably get up to a 34
-Upward trend through high school (3.3 GPA–> 3.3 GPA–> 3.65 GPA–> 3.75 GPA)

ECs:
-Eagle Scout
-4 years of crew (captain senior year)
-100 hours of volunteering
-70 of which were with an organization that the mentally challenged (did my Eagle project there)
-Work at a concert hall, work nearly every show and there are 40 shows in a year

Gap year:
-interning at a startup for 6 months, will be doing finance related work
-traveling for 3 months
-helping out Boy Scout troop

Anyways, thanks for taking the time to look at my post.

Are you a CA resident? You do know that UCSB, UCD, UCLA do not have a Business school or Finance major? Are you looking at their Econ majors?

Have you calculated your UC capped weighted and fully weighted GPA? https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
Have you calculated your SLO GPA (using 9th-11th grades) in the above calculator?

I am a california resident, and I am aware of the fact that those UCs don’t have business schools or finance majors and I will be applying as an econ major. Even though they don’t even have finance majors, they are cheaper than out of state schools which is why I’m still applying to them. My UC capped GPA is a 3.72 and my fully weighted is a 4.0. As for SLO, my UW GPA is a 3.49, W GPA is a 3.97, and capped is 3.7.

UCLA and UCB are out of reach.
What’s your budget?

I can afford all of them, but for SCU, USC, and BC I’ll have to think long and hard if it’s worth the price tag if I’m granted admission.

Based on your UC GPA capped weighted, your CP GPA, test scores and EC’s:

Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.40-3.79 (capped weighted) and not major specific:
UCB: 2%
UCLA: 3%
UCSD: 6%
UCD: 15%
UCSB: 14%
UCI: 13%
UCSC: 59%
UCR: 78%
UCM: 92%

All the UC’s on your list will be tough with your lower than average GPA, although test scores are above the average. UC’s tend to be very GPA focused unfortunately not in your favor. You might want to consider UC Riverside which has an excellent Business school.

SLO is slight Reach again due your CP GPA. Average last was 4.01 and acceptance rate of around 30% for Business Admin. They are also overenrolled this year, so they may accept less Freshman for next fall.

USC will be a Reach and SCU is probably a High Match/Low Reach. I see no safeties on your list but then I am not familiar with your OOS options.

I think you need to redo your list which is Reach Heavy. Have you considered SDSU, CSU Long Beach, CSU Fullerton, LMU as possible options? All have very good business programs.

Best of luck.
