What are my chances for these universities?CS

Hence why I mentioned WPI earlier; WPI is test-optional.

max out at 27-30 after probably a couple of tries is what i meant. i go into panic mode on these tests so probably not on the next try. what is wpi?

by the way when schools look at standardize test scores do they look at just act/sat or AP scores as well? if i submit my scores from my ap exam to any school will i be give a choice of receiving credit?i dont know if you just submit them if you want credit.

Virtually no schools use AP scores for admission purposes. Just for credit earned/class placement

WPI: Worcester Polytechnic Institute

will going to Umass-Amherst like you suggested and transfering out to a better school like gatech,U of M or usc be the same as going to a school that i just listed for 4 years?employment wise and other ways?

Whichever school u finish at will be the degree u get. So yes, if u transfer, then it will be as if u never went to umass since ur degree would be of usc or where ever u transfer

figured my best chances are with Uni of Illinois at urbana, gatech, Uni of Mich-ann arbor(early admission). in That order is Uni of Illinois a match/reach/high reach?

Georgia Tech would be quite a reach based on those numbers alone… University of michigan is a reach but doable if you improved your ACT and added extra curricula’s… keep in mind that if you are doing computer science many schools look more heavily into your math and science sub scores. It may be far away but there is a pretty good Tech school in michigan that you may be able to score a small scholarship to, Michigan Tech, they have around that avg ACT and your GPA may earn you some money so maybe look into that… I’d say to increase your odds retake the ACT and join a club or volunteer or something. Chance me back its the only thread I have posted.

How’s your extra-curriculars? Those could be the game changer for you. Or do you plan to have a really good essay topic? Taken into consideration your ACT score, all of these schools could be considered a reach for you(except Georgia Tech, I’m not familiar with the school enough to comment on it). Most of the schools you mentioned like to see comparatively high ACT scores. It’s definitely not impossible though.

Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1542332-how-much-shot-do-i-have.html</a></p>

no one mentions my chances at Uni of Illinois? i feel like this one is easier to get into than the rest i have listed.

Lets focus on your in-state school, GT:

You need to recalculate your GPA (using GT’s method):

=======================================================

We recalculate your high school GPA. We use a standard 4.0 grading scale, but only factor in the core curriculum courses (see below). For students taking AP, IB, or College level classes, we award an additional one-half point (0.5) for each course.

Core Curriculum: Grading Scale:
English (4 Units) A = 4.0
Math (4 Units) B = 3.0
Science (3 Units) C = 2.0
Social Science (3 Units) D = 1.0
Foreign Language (2 Units) F = 0.0

Example: If you take AP English and make a B, we would award you 3.5 pts.

(mid-50%) of high school GPAs was 3.77-4.08
ACT: 28-32
SAT: 1960-2160

<a href=“Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Undergraduate Admission”>Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Undergraduate Admission;

Your GPA looks good for GT (once you factor in your AP classes), but you need to get your ACT score up to 28+, which I’m sure you can, after some timed test practice. :)

Good Luck

Your challenge at University of Illinois is the ACT score. The middle 50% ACT score for the engineering school is 31-34.

i just calculated my Gatech gpa using their method. it comes out to 3.74. I figured my chances were not always the best at Gatech because of E.C’s and not mainly my gpa/rigor classes/act score.

I was not sure if engineering classes i took were allowed so i left it out

???

Gater88NE?

? about the engineering classes? I would leave them off. Your GPA is fine, start studying for the ACT! :slight_smile:

You have an Aug 23 deadline for the Sept 21 test (or a Sept 27th deadline for the Oct 26 test).

Good Luck!

what about E.Cs? Like i said i thought my chances were not the best at Gatech because of my E.Cs and not so my test scores.

^it’s a combination of both. Your test scores are your major problem for all the schools you are looking at.
