What are my chances for top/Ivy schools?

Hi, thank you for your interest!

Honestly, tell me if I’m ridiculous for having these schools on my list. I’m pretty isolated in terms of college admissions… aka, I don’t really have people familiar with competitive admissions around me for support.

Prospective Colleges - if anyone has suggestions on narrowing this list down or any good safeties, please let me know!

Amherst, Brown, Columbia, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, NYU, Princeton, Swarthmore, Vassar, Wesleyan, Yale

Any insight? I have some more impressive things underway, but I won’t post them until I know for sure.

Anyway, thanks!

You have a shot just like the thousands of other kids. Its a reach for everyone with these schools. The matches on your list are NYU, Wesleyan, Vassar, and Swarthmore. You need a safety or two and you might wanna add another match or so.

@blueguy99 Do you have any suggestions for safeties according to where I’m at? I don’t have much experience with this stuff, as you can see :frowning:

Whats your home state? An instate safety is good because they are more affordable and they tend to favor instate applicants. Like, I’m applying to Rutgers as my safety because I am instate in NJ.

@blueguy99 CT - so I should choose instate public schools?

Yeah like UConn would be a safety for you

@blueguy99 I check out my instate schools, and there are none that I’m really thrilled about. I know there are less competitive schools with good merit-based scholarships. Could I choose my safeties based off of that?

Sure they don’t HAVE to be instate. As long as you can afford them, youre definitely getting in, and you like them. I was considering CU boulder as a safety for a while.

Bump for more insight?

I would say it’s worth applying in the hopes you get into a couple of the schools you listed.

For you, I think NYU is a safety, although not financially. I’m not totally sure what you’re looking at as a major, but I’m assuming history/classics/poli sci. Check out some of the CUNY schools like Brooklyn College. They’re very cheap for out of state students. Also, look at University of Rochester. It’s one of the most underrated schools, and it has an awesome curriculum. It also has Eastman school of music. I don’t know if it’s possible, but maybe you can take some classes there since you’re really serious about piano. It gives good merit/need-based aid and has an acceptance rate similar to NYU.

@oPhilippos This was very helpful and insightful—thank you so much!
