What are my chances for top Universities? Please Reply

Ok guys...i will explain my situation in detail and am hoping for some useful responses.

I am currently in Finland taking the IB diploma course. I have finished 11th grade and 12th grade is beginning in August. I am interested in engineering (chemical, aeronautical) or computer science etc.

My subjects in the IB are -

Math HL
Chem HL
Physics HL
Eng A1 SL
French B SL
History HL

so currently i have 4 highers but i might drop history/physics ....i am finding physics a bit hard.....but i know a physics higher is useful when applying for an engineering uni.

At the moment i am not sure whether i will end up in UK, US or Canada...nothing's final yet. ...but what i want to know is...will a predicted mark of 37 (including bonus points) and a score of around 2100 on SAT 1 give me a shot at top universities? I don't really have an impressive list of ECs.....but since i am in IB..i have to complete 150 hours of CAS..and that's pretty much it....

I want to know what exactly is the level of universities that i can apply to?

one more thing..i dunno if it will help...but out of the 37 predicted marks..i am hoping for a 7 in chem HL....6 in math HL...and a 6 in Physics HL. ....so basically i am losing out on english and french..where i dont think i will get more than 5 as a predicted grade.

Since i am gonna apply for an engineering course...will they consider the fact that i have done better in chem math and physics? all higher levels?

Will be grateful for any help that i receive. Thanks

As an international student the standards for acceptance may be higher. Is there any outstanding you have done besides IB? (Good luck with your diploma, by the way!)

I don’t think they will be able to see the grades before they accept you. Consider: Are you taking the November or May tests? You may want to look into the requirements of each school you’re applying to make sure they don’t want SAT subject tests, or if they do, sign up for them. (I think engineering schools want math and physics/chem, but I could be wrong.)

Thanks for quick response.

They don’t get to see the grades but they will see the predicted grades right? So i was saying that will the higher predicted grades in chem math physics help?

And also…i forgot to mention…i will take the SAT subject tests…but i can’t predict what i will score since i have no idea about their difficulty level at the moment.

I don’t know how much weight the schools put on predicted grades. I think it may depend on how long your school has been an IB school, and how accurate the IB grades have been. By the way, if what you’re going off is actual predicted grades and that’s why you think you will receive a 5 on English/French, know that you can still try to raise that to a 6 or 7.

As far as the SAT subject tests go, do you know any older students who have taken those? You can try to compare what they got on their predicted grades to their SAT subject tests scores.

As a note, I know one girl who took the SAT subject test in physics, and she was in Physics SL. I think she scored a 790 after about three weeks of studying/cramming, so I think you will do fine if you review some material and look at a couple of SAT subject test books for physics. (You may want want to search the threads to see if you can find any recommendations for good books, etc.)

hmm…yea…i think i will have to give sat subject tests for chemistry, math and physics.

anyone else?
