Hi,
I am currently a sophomore at a state school in MA.
Since I am already sophomore, high school stats are not important so I won’t list here.
My current stats are:
- College GPA: 3.80
- Major: Computer Science
- Courses taken:
- Calc 2, Linear Algebra
- Intro to CS, Data structure and algorithm
- Some others gen ed classes
- ECs:
- I have done 2 volunteers works related to my major. Each last about a month.
- I also have done more volunteers at food pantry over high school and freshmen year of college.
- Recommendation letters: 2; one from Calc 2 professor and one from CS professor.
- Essay: Average
- Ethnicity: Asian (first generation immigrant)
I am planning to transfer to one of these schools in Spring 2017:
- UMass Amherst: At first I thought it would be my safety school. But overtime, through reading on CC, I realized that CS is very competitive here. So I am worry about them now.
- Boston University
- Northeastern University
- New York University
- Cornell University
- Tufts University
Anyone have any experience with these schools please help me out! Thank you very much!
The average transfer GPA for NEU is 3.3 and BU is 3.5, you will get into no problem. BU does not give merit or academic scholarships though, so you are looking at most likely paying the net cost (unless you receive need based aid based on your family’s income). Also, BU generally only accepts liberal arts courses, and none from classes that are directly part of your major. They want you to take their equivalent. I was at both schools yesterday inquiring about transferring myself, so that’s why I know this information. Also, BU has limitations as to what times of the year you can transfer into that school. For some, you can only transfer in the fall, others its the spring, and some are either. But from what I’ve been told by admissions in the past week, I think you’ll get into BU and NEU no problem
@Cld11111 Wow, thank you for the information! It’s very helpful.
I never knew about BU only accepting liberal art courses. It would definitely affect my decisions.
I am also very concern about schools that only accept certain major during specific semester.
I just found out the NEU only accept CS major during Fall. I might go with the route of transferring as Math major and then double major with CS.
