My grades been pretty bad in Junior year. Finishing this semester (2nd semester of Junior year) with a C in Calc (one and only) and few Bs. Can I make up for this with great grades in my 1st semester of senior year? Will this break my chances?

Thank you so much.

I remember reading on the admissions blog that if you had poor grades senior year, they would prefer that you apply Regular Decision so they can actually see your senior year grades.

Obviously your board scores are excellent. Your curriculum looks extremely challenging, which is a big plus, and which serves as a good counterweight (and gives context) to your so-so 3.54 GPA. Normally I would say that I think you are one of those people whose chances might be better ED than RD.
However, if your junior year grades are mediocre, that could be a big problem. Why don’t you wait and see what your transcript looks like after all junior year grades are in, and then determine your strategy?. If they are as disappointing as you suggest, then you might want to wait until ED2 (if at least one term’s grades will be in before the Adcom has to make its decision) or RD.

Thank you both so much for answering.
Is there a significant difference in ED1 vs. ED2 aside from the time?

Depending on your school semester schedule, your first semester grades will be in for ED II. However, you won’t get the advantage of not having to apply elsewhere if you get in ED II.

In terms of admission standards, there is no real difference between ED1 and ED2
