What are my chances for UC Computer Science. or Cal Poly SLO?

I would appreciate any feedback about my chances for admission to the Computer Science programs at the UCs and a Cal Poly. Specifically, UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCD, UCSB, and UCI. AND Cal Poly SLO.

I have the following:

  • 4.64 weighted GPA;
  • 3.87 unweighted GPA (got a couple B+s as a freshman);
  • 3.91 scholastic GPA (scholastic GPA is on my transcript and calculated by my high school to exclude non-academic classes like PE and sports grades).
  • Earned all A’s in sophomore and junior years in all honors and AP classes. My senior year course load is 5 AP courses and wrestling. I am currently earning all A’s.
  • Class Rank 19 out of 600 top 3.2%. Fairly competitive high school in Southern California.
  • SAT 1480 (760 math, 720 r&w) (Note: I took SAT twice. 1480 is second and most recent score. My first test score was 1320 taken as a sophomore to experience the test and to shake some "first time" butterflies. I took it cold and did not study for it.
  • AP Scholar with Distinction.
  • Work Experience: I did a summer internship program this last summer with a corporate IT department learning JavaScript and HTML coding. Also assembled PC hardware with software from scratch.
  • 2 years with high school wrestling team in my sophomore and junior years; I was league champion 2016-2017 season which also earned a spot at CIF Championships; Tournament Gold Medal winner. Earned varsity letter junior year. My name will be permanently affixed in high school gym for becoming league champion.
  • Other ECs include various volunteer work, on-line computer coding classes during summer.

Ethnicity - Hispanic

Thank you so much in advance for your time.

Oh, my UC GPA is 4.33.

Thanks!

I think you are a competitive applicant for all the UC’s and SLO, but UCB/UCLA and SLO are all tough admits.

Have you calculated your MCA points for SLO? http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/cal-poly-san-luis-obispo/1694769-confused-about-mca-score.html

Best of luck.

UC’s do not consider race/ethnicity in their admission decisions. You look like a competitive applicant however you have selected one of the most competitive majors for the UC’s and SLO.

You look like a very qualified applicant so best of luck and apply widely.

Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 4.20 or above (UC GPA capped weighted) and not major specific:

UCB: 42%
UCLA: 54%
UCSD: 87%
UCSB: 85%
UCD: 91%
UCI: 94%
UCR/UCM: 98%

25th - 75th percentiles for SAT:
UCB: 1280-1490
UCLA: 1280-1500
UCSD: 1250-1470
UCSB: 1290-1450
UCD: 1190-1430
UCI: 1190-1420
UCSC: 1170-1380
UCR: 1090-1310
UCM: 1020-1230

Gumbymom, thank you for taking your time and responding so quickly. This makes me feel like I have a chance. Thank you for the advice as well.

Correction: My uc gpa above was miscalculated by me. I accidentally included physical education classes in the calculation.

My UC GPA is 4.4.

Note, however, that CS tends to be one of the most selective majors at many UCs and CSUs, so admission chances for the CS major are likely to be lower than for the overall campus.

@ucbalumnus, I think it’s going to be a very competitive situation for me. Hopefully I can hit a home run on the Math 2 subject test that I’ll be taking in November to help increase my chances a little. I also took the October SAT last weekend. I think (I hope) I got a 1500+ score on it.
