I am going to be senior in the upcoming year
I live in Los Angeles County; I attend a public school
I will be the first in my family to go to college
I'm a minority (Cambodian)... (does that even matter?)
Income isn't really that high either...I will apply for financial aid
I'm not sure about my GPA but it's at least 3.8 (I don't know if it's weighted or unweighted but only around 15 people in our senior year is in this category and our school is overcrowded)
I'm definitely in the top 10% of my class but I'm hoping to be in the top 4%
My SAT score is 1850. I've taken once and plan on re-taking in October
My ACT score is 30. I've taken it once and plan on re-taking on October 24 (Will it be too late by then??)
My Subject test scores aren't too swell: My highest ones are 660 on the US History test and 640 for World History
I co-founded and was secretary for a club at school, assisting in raising $600 for a cause
Bollywood Club (that will stand out, right?)
I participated in the Academic Decathlon last year and was top scorer and received a silver medal for a speech
I have 110+ volunteer hours at the hospital
I've taken one college course: Psychology 101
My AP Test Scores are:
AP World: 5
AP Bio: 5
AP Calculus: 4
AP US History: 3
There are teachers at my school who are UCLA graduates who can give me a good recommendation.
However, I'm totally undecided on my major

What do you think my chances are? And for USC? I really want to get into UCLA though.

Don't you need another type of SAT II subject test? And also, they do not consider race in the admission policy. But fyi, the average SAT score for UCLA was 2003 this past year, and the avg UC gpa was around 4.14 or something. It is good that you are more than 10% in your classs... however, realistically, I'd say it would be a low reach unless you raised your SAT scoress.

Thanks for your input
I've taken 6 SAT Subject tests total and I just can't seem to score high on them. In that case, my next highest SAT II score would be Math II would be 610 which is low. Should I take another Subject test? I'll definitely be retaking the SAT Reasoning though.

I had a friend who got accepted into UCLA and her SAT score was 1800. Her GPA was around 3.7 or 3.8 unweighted...

I am not completely sure if you can submit your history tests as two, because generally, the UC's want subjects from different areas. and I see why not to take another subject test.

UCLA does not reject everyone with sat scores below 1900 and low GPA's. There are a lot of factors that come into play, your EC's, recs, improvements, essays. etc.

On a side note, I too am aiming for UCLA or UCB. My SAT score is 1930 (aiming for 2000+), and my sat II scores are 680 MATH IIC and 540 PHYSICS currently. But I plan on self-studying BIO for 650+. UC GPA 4.0, which is fairly lower than the avg UCLA gpa.

You would need to gather your transcript and calculate your UC GPA, which is comprised of your grades 10-11.

hi i will be attending UCLA this fall and i got into UCB too
i think your GPA is a bit weak if its 3.8 weighted, but if its 3.8 unweighted thats wonderful

when we filled out apps last november
there were NO recc letters so yeah

i think your SAT scores are great
they are better than mine lol
and so is your AP cred, impressive enough

altho i think your EC's are lacking

honestly i think you have a shot
but your essays will have to be extraordinary if you wanna get in and stand out

and junshik it looks like you have a great shot too

if you guys have any other questions feel free to ask :]

From what I recall, there's only Whites, Asian, African-American, Hispanic, Pacific Islander, and Race Unknown. Post a picture of an application that has Southeast Asian under the category and I'll believe you.

And yes, Cambodia is under Southeast Asia, but it' still considered an Asian country whose people are also Asian.
