Hi!
I'm an asian junior and CA resident, ...Please chance me for Computer Science major for CA schools such as UCI, UCSD, UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, UC Riverside, UC Merced, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal Poly SLO, USC. Thanks!

My High school is really competitive.
My GPAs are:
1. cumulative gpa (UC weighted) - 3.82
2. cumulative unweighted - 3.56
with 4 APs / 1 honors.
SAT: 2100
SAT-2 Math: 760 and SAT Chem: 710

Taking 3 more AP classes next year.

EC:
- Certificate of Merit for Piano Lvl 10 (playing for 10 years)
- Internship over at this local Kumon Education center this summer
- 300+ volunteer hours over at a Library, School and Local City Community.

Chance me for UCs and also advise how to improve the chances during summer and senior year.
Thanks so much.

Your UC GPA is low for the very competitive major of Computer Science. Your SAT looks good but I would consider to some type of programming class during the summer related to your major.
UC’s are very focused on GPA vs Test scores.
USC/SLO/UCSD: Low Reach/Reach
UCI/UCSB/UCD: High Match
CPP/UCR: Match
UCM: Safety

UCI - High Match
UCSD - Low Reach
UC Davis - High Match
UC Santa Barbara - Slightly High Match
UC Riverside - Match
UC Merced - Low Match
Cal Poly Pomona - Match
Cal Poly SLO - Very High Match
USC - Low Reach

Your SAT score is very nice and will be the major factor for getting you into these schools. Your score is in the top percentiles for each of these schools; however, your gpa is relatively low. I believe that you actually do have a decent chance to get into Santa Barbara because they do really like high SAT scores.

As for what to do over the summer, continue volunteering at the minimum. @gumbymom recommends doing a programming class and I agree that this would probably look favorable for admissions; but if you have to much else going on this summer don’t try to do too much. The only real “flaw” with your application is the GPA but there is nothing you can do at this point, and it is a really good thing that you took many AP classes; that will only help you.

It is a good thing you scored so high on the SAT; best of luck!

Thank you so much for your feedback. It is helpful.

1) I am new to these terms like Reach/Match. Can you please help me understand.
My guess is as follows. Please confirm:
Low reach–> Less likely to get
Match --> likely to get that college
High Match --> More likely to get that college

2) As GPA is low for the very competitive major of Computer Science, Is it a good idea to try with “Undecided” major and try some UCs? If so, which colleges I should try like that?

3) How about other computer majors like “Computer Engineering” ? What are chances for them?
