What are my chances for UCSD and UCSB engineering?

Hello, Two schools that I am applying for undergraduate engineering are UCSB and UCSD. Obviously applying as an engineering major makes getting admitted a bit more difficult. Here are my numbers

3.88 UW GPA
taken total of 11 AP/honors classes during high school(8 AP, 3 honors) including AP Calc AB and BC, AP Chem, AP Computer Science A, etc…
4.3 Weighted GPA(based off RogerHub)
4.1 Capped UC GPA
33 ACT
800 SAT Bio Subject test , 760 SAT math 2 Subject test
I am also of hispanic decent(if that actually makes a difference)

Any response is appreciated, also responses in regard to how my numbers compare to other engineering programs such as University of Washington, UCI, Davis etc… are also appreciated.

Also for UCSB is there a specific engineering major that is most difficult or least difficult to get into? And finally does the UC-system legitimately honor your 2nd choice majors? For example, If I wasn’t strong enough to get into UCSB as an engineering major but I was qualified enough to get into my 2nd choice major(mathematical sciences), would they admit me under that major or would I basically be screwed if I couldn’t get into the engineering college.

  1. Since all Engineering majors at UCSD are impacted (capped), you need to select an non-capped major as an alternate or you could be accepted but as Undeclared. Very difficult to change from Undeclared into Engineering later as a non-direct admit.
  2. UCSB has a small Engineering Department and again very selective. UCSB will consider a non-Engineering major as an alternate. Again changing majors into Engineering will be difficult.
  3. UC’s do not consider race/ethnicity in their admission decisions.

Your UC GPA, ACT Score and Subject test scores are on target. You look like a competitive applicant so the best of luck and make sure you apply widely to the UC System.

Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19 (capped weighted) and not major specific.
