what are my chances for UCSD/UCD/UCB/UCLA/UCSB/UCI

hello im a jr. right now and i was wondering what are my chances in getting into the colleges that i named UCSD/UCD/UCB/UCLA/UCSB/UCI. I am a resident in california. I am asian. I have taken all honors courses and 1 AP. This year i am currently taking 3 AP's. I recieved a 4 on AP World History. I havn't taken the SAT's yet bet lets jus say i have around a 1850. i hav an unweighted gpa of 3.9

any body? u can just help me on any one of those if u can

more stats needed

UC Berkeley/UCLA: Reach
UCSD: Slight Reach
UCI/UCSB/UCD: Match

from what everyone has said UCI/UCSB/UCD are the only ones im matching. I'm glad because UCD is my second choice, but UCSD is my first choice. What do i need to do in order to match for UCSD?

if your uc gpa is above a 4.0, bring your sat up to 1950+ and you will be a match for UCSD. As of right now you are a slight reach-reach.

i am not sure how to calculate my UC gpa but here are my classes if any one can help me

Summer before 9th grade

Life Skills A

9th Grade

Swim Team (1 semester "0" period) - A

Those are my grades so far and my goal for the SAT's is a 2000; if i reach that what % chance do i have getting in UCSD?

EDIT: also i am on a swim team outside of school. i hav been on it for about 4 years.
and by the way when i said "rite now i am about #3 in my graduating class of 2008" i meant the people in my school graduating in the year 2008. my class is about 100 people...and im like 3...is that good?

Okay, let me explain how admission to the UCs work (seems like I've posted this 100 times, but what the heck?).

First of all, the UCs don't count your freshman grades at all.

Second, the UCs only count the 15 key course areas (they refer to these as the a-g courses).

Third, the UCs compute a separate UC GPA which is computed by counting the grades in the 15 key course areas and then adding in 1 point extra for honors or AP or IB courses. However, they "cap" this at 8 semester hours. Meaning that if you take 5 year-long honors courses, they only count the first 4 year-long honor courses as ones that you can get the extra 1 point for.

Here's an example--in 10th grade, you take 7 courses like you did--one was Swimming (which the UCs don't count). Of the other 6, 5 are honor courses. You get As in all of them. Therefore your UC GPA at the current time is 4.667. This is computed by taking the 12 semesters times 4 grade points in each class for As, plus 8 extra points for the honors. This gives you 56 grade points/12 classes = 4.667. However, the one B in drafting taken during the summer also counts, so your average is actually 59/13 or 4.538.

However, it is impossible for you to maintain this average. Why? Because next year, the best you can do is 4.0 for an average, since you will get no additional points for honors. Thus, the best you can do overall is 4.269. No problem, though, since this total will get you into the top UCs anyway as long as you get at least a total of 2000 on the SAT Is, and about a 1300 total on the two SAT IIs.

Thus your chances right now (without knowing your SAT scores) is still:

UC Berkeley/UCLA/UCSD: Match
UCI/UCSB/UCD: Safe Match
UCSC/UCR/UCM: Safety

However, you need to continue to take a tough courseload, since that is looked at by the admissions officers, and you need to have some decent extracurriculars to put on the resume to get into the top schools--but I see you apparently have these as well.

And in answer to your last question, yes 3 out of 100 is quite good. Usually it takes top 3% or so to qualify for schools like UC Berkeley and UCLA, and also for the Ivy-league schools. So keep up the good grades and congratulations on the results so far.
