What are my chances for University of Washington?

Hello. I’m a little stressed and wondering what my chances of getting into UW are.

GPA: 4.0
ACT: 29

My school doesn’t offer AP classes which really worries me. I’ve taken about 4 Honors classes (English 10, English 11, Math 3, and Calculus) I’ve also taken 4 Concurrent Enrollment classes (Geology, Nutrition and Food Science, American Sign Language 1, and Music History) I’m currently enrolled in Calculus 2 and have 3.5 credits of science and 4 social science credits.

Also, I’m an out-of-state student which worries me. Based on this information do you think I have a chance of getting accepted?

your gpa is good your ACT is also not bad but id bring it up the extra point if you could. Take as much as your school offers you. also extracurriculars?

Thank you for the response! I’ve taken two years of guitar, done crossfit and weightlifting for almost four years, I’m one of the leaders of my Yearbook staff which I’ve been in for 2 years, I’m a part of the Officer’s Club at my school, and I’ve also volunteered at a couple American Sign Language events.

help

after looking through the acceptance thread it seems my chances are very low. I feel crushed already

I wouldn’t say your chances are very low. Your gpa is a little above the 75th percentile for last year’s class. Your ACT is around the 50th percentile or maybe slightly below. You should have a chance for OOS, depending on the strength of the rest of your application.

Did you apply directly to any major or school? It’s tough for the hot majors, but for general pre-major admission, I think you have a good chance.

I applied for HCDE but I knew I pretty much had no shot at direct admission for that.

can anyone else give me some input? anyone who was accepted last year as an oos student? I’ve heard people with high gpas and high test scores have gotten rejected, while people with lower stats have gotten in. is that true? ah I’m just so worried

in the same boat as you kind of! I have friends at UW and they say if you have a 30 or ever and you are OOS then you have a good chance. Apparently these past few years they have been preferring out of state kids (for tuition purposes)

and- you have really good GPA to make up for that extra point between 29 and 30.

My son was admitted two years ago, OOS with approximately 3.85-3.90 unweighted gpa and 32 act. Doesn’t mean much because it’s just one case out of thousands, but since you asked.

I don’t think it’s true that OOS admission is easier because they pay higher tuition though. I have heard this opinion on this website several times, but the statistics released by UW do not support it. The head of admissions has said that OOS admits typically have higher stats.

^ Also compare acceptance rates: e.g., 2017: WA Residents, 59.2%; Nonresidents (U.S. + International), 41.5%.

You’ve already submitted your application so there’s nothing you could do at this point anyway. Love UW, but love your safeties, too. UW is a nifty state flagship school, but for OOS it’s also really expensive.
