Hi, I am currently a junior in high school, and I was just curious about my chances in getting into UVA engineering and Vtefch engineering. I will end senior year with a projected 4.36 GPA, and I have a 1500 SAT, though I might retake it and superscore for a 1530-1560. I am taking 5 APs this year, will take 6 APs next year as a senior, and have taken 2 APs in my sophomore year. I am in robotics club, cyber patriots club, chess club, treasurer of music production club, been on the freshman and jv basketball team from freshman to sophomore year, and have gotten 1st and 2nd chairs for all district and county bands for the past three years, and made all state as 16th chair. I am also in NHS and Math honor society, and I also volunteer at my library during the summer for a kids reading program. I do not know my exact projected class rank, but estimate being in the top 10% out of 650 students in my class. I am in state in NOVA and an Asian American male. I believe I have a good chance of making engineering for both UVA and Vtech, but my parents keep saying I need more. How are my chances looking, and if I get accepted to both, which engineering program should I choose? I want to major specifically in computer science. Thanks.
For UVA- do your best to get in that top 10%. Retake the SAT. Your coursework looks good. Don’t drop any of those APs in senior year. Need strong letters of rec from AP physics and AP calc teachers. You have a darn good chance. Worry about which to attend once you’re accepted.
